teddy was potty trained for 6 months and now is peeing everywhere teddy was pee pad trained and everything was fine for 6 months and now that he is a little older is peeing on my walls. I think it is because he is marking his territory should i get hin neutered. will that help?:aimeeyork |

If Teddy is over 8 months I'd schedule him to get neutered, YES. You'll find info on the anesthesia protocol that's safest for him in the yt library (Forums- up at top of page) & also be sure to ask for pre op bloodwork. It may be an extra charge but so worth it as they're able to catch problems before they happen. I'm sure others will pop on soon with more advice. Good luck! |
Yes, neutering will help, but may not resolve the problem completely. I got Huey fixed at 6 months and it helped that he didn't mark EVERY mailbox on our walks, just every other one. I still have marking issues and he is almost 4 years old. I have found a belly band is our best friend when visiting people that have dogs. We have resigned ourselves to cleaning up in the house regularly. |
I don't know if this will help: A friend of mine pee pad trained her little boy and when he started lifting his leg and marking, she had him neutered. Then she made him a special pee pad area. She took a storage bin and cut the sides off so that is was only about six inches high (sanded them down so it was not sharp, cut out a piece (like a cat littler bin), placed pee pad inside..............bingo, if he lifted his leg, she just rinsed the bin out. Good luck....... |
Unfortunately,if you have an intact male,he will regress with the potty training ALOT. Milo (my boy) is a year old,and for the first 5 months he was 100% potty trained. He was FANTASTIC and I was sooo proud of him because he was a breeze to train. But then at around 5+ months old,he started peeing up my couch and walls so we started with the potty training again. It took another couple of weeks to get him to use the pads again, and then he was fine for a while, but since then, every now and again he will have days (or even weeks) where he pees up my fireplace, the couch and certain furniture. We call them his "off" days, because we can literally see them coming. On those days,he´ll shake when he has to pee (because he knows he isnt going to use the pad) and he holds it in until we arent looking so that he can pee where he wants and not where he´s supposed to. We´ve been told that at this point, neutering him wont necessary help (we´re still getting him done though),because now he´s marked everywhere and he´s got into the habbit of lifting his leg,he will always do it *sigh* I did make a few belly bands and used them for a day or two,but they made his coat (around his belly and side area) look and smell DISGUSTING due to being in constant contact with pee (even though we changed the pads regularly). So we just deal with his regressions by going back to basics in potty training and hoping it passes quickly, because outside those "off days" he does fine  His most recent regression lasted about 2 weeks and it was driving me crazy..he peed on EVERYTHING  In the end,we brought a big rock in from outside and put it on his potty pad.We soaked some kitchen roll in his pee and rubbed it on the rock..now he pees up that ;) |
This is what I meant about the rock ;) As you can see,he´s already peed up it today lol http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps80dfd0e1.jpg |
That's a great idea with the rock, Gina :) |
