Questions about new baby 1 Attachment(s) I hope I finally figured out how to make the picture attachment work from my iphone. I have an 11 week old Yorkie. I have been around Yorkies before & new that's what I wanted when I decided to get a puppy! I went to pick out a puppy & fell in love with my Baxter. I am curious if anyone else's YTs coat was as short as his in the beginning. His siblings all had longer curlier coats. He is AKC & the only dogs in the home were the Yorkies. I do not plan to breed him, & as I said I fell in love with him. I went with my heart & not looks. I made a good choice because he is so sweet. But there is a part of me that hopes he will eventually grow out a longer coat. He does have longer hairs that stick out in all the right places, on top of his head, under his chin, at the muzzle, & paws. If anyone's adult YT looked anything like the picture that I hope is attached I'd love to see them. Also if this is a duplicate post I apologize. I posted it earlier today & it has not posted. Thank you! |
Hi! Welcome to YT, your puppy is very cute :p .... I've never seen a Yorkshire terrier with such short hair as a puppy before. From the look of his current coat, it looks like it has great potential to get a little longer. Perhaps never floor length, but most definitely longer. I think as your pup gets older the hair will begin to grow out. I can't really say for sure, though! I had a yorkshire terrier mix puppy once, that had short hair like that as a baby. I know you said your puppy is purebred, so it doesn't really relate.... but the hair length was the same. It took the puppy until it was one year old to have fluffier hair. Either way, you have a cute pup :) |
I too have never seen a yorkie pup with hair this short....all three of mine had much longer thicker hair....hopefully someone with more expertise will chime in... |
2 Attachment(s) My ZoE had a shorter, smoother coat as a puppy...she never looked like a fluffy puppy. Her breeder knew she would have a silky coat as an adult (and she does)...I don't know if that's based on how her puppy coat looked, or her years of experience judging coats...maybe another breeder will respond and let us both know. Here's a photo of ZoE as a puppy, and then one from last summer (I don't have a recent one on the puter I'm currently on where you can see her coat cos she's wearing winter clothes in all the recent ones :D) She's currently two years old, so in the last photo she was about 1 1/2yrs old. Congratulations on Baxter! He's adorable :) |
I have never seen a Yorkie pup with hair this short either so I am no help but I wanted to say Congrats on your new Baby! He is Absolutely Adorable!!!! :D |

Thereīs absolutely nothing wrong with that,I actually owned a yorkie for 6 years and after worrying and obsessing for years as to why her coat was so short and her muzzle so long,we actually found out that there was a dachshund in her lineage :( Her breeder had tried to "grow it out" by mixing the yorkie/dachshund mix with a pure bred yorkie and so on,but there was always one or two pups with obvious dachshund traits that never went away..and one happened to land with me. I LOVED her to bits and she was a FANTASTIC dog,but her coat was all wrong from the start and it never grew out even though she had tufts of long hair here and there.I will find pics of her as a puppy and an adult so you can see what I mean ;) |
Ooops..by the way,excuse my english.I meant "pups from different males" not "sires"..sorry ;) |
