Joel gave me hives! We were play fighting and he was chewing on me, now I have itchy bumps all were he was chewing on:( Has this happened to you before? |
Could have been a coincident. Or what had he eaten prior to play, plus where had he been walking. Could have come from his feet. |
Not to me...but an elderly (70's...same age as my Mom was...lol) friend of mine used to have that problem with a Maine Coon kitty. I forget if it was the vet or her doctor who said it was the saliva, but at a certain point, she suddenly had to be really careful with kitty since it just started happening one day where it was not a problem before. Also, kitty was found to have medical issues, including a 'fused spine' all of which were responsible for kitty being helped to Rainbow Bridge within about a year of the issue first developing. Personally, I have wondered since I heard of this if there was not a little more to it...maybe a nutritional and/or age-related deficiency as she aged, and/or in combination with a bacterium/micro-organism. etc., the kitty contracted, or since the kitty not long afterward would start 'attacking' her suddenly after being his usual sweet, loving self, I wondered if something more was wrong with kitty. The Vet called it "Rage" and said it is more common in dogs but it does happen to cats where they suddenly just start acting like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I hope this is a fluke and that you are all right soon...hives are awful...I have had them...but maybe you are allergic to something he had in his mouth before playing with you. {{{Hugs}}} |
This just happened the other night to my DH2B. He was playing with Molli then a few seconds later all the places she had chewed on his hand got rashy and itchy. It had never happened before and yet to happen again so I'm assuming it was something Molli had eaten that might have still been in her mouth. If you have a doggie toothbrush and tooothpaste try brushing his teeth real good and seeing if it still happens after that. |
Great idea. Brush the teeth and see. Have you had this happen before? |
It's never happened before, I had hives growing up but never from Joel. I don't think he ate anything different, we just got home and I let him out of the crate and played together. I'll brush his teeth and see if it happens again:) |
That's so wild! I am curious if brushing his teeth will keep it from happening again. Something has to be different for it to only happen this one time..very odd. |

I think its probably more of something he has eaten or was in his mouth then him if it has never happened before. It has never happened to me before. |
Happens with me and Jack but I always figured it was the bacteria in his mouth - since is canine and I am human. :) I just wash it really good with antibacterial soap and goes away pretty quickly. One thing I have heard recently is our bodies change every 7 years or so - I never had allergies when I was young and developed them when I was in my 30's. |
i guess try the controlled test, brush then see what happens. |
Do you think it's just a reaction to the bite and saliva. This happened to me before and I just wash the area with warm soapy water and within a short amount of time it clears up. |
