Why breeders have applications!!!! Very sad news for one of my friends. Since the very first day my friends cousin laid eyes on Strudel she had to have one! I advised her to take her time and find a very good breeder, but price was a big issue for her. So as soon as she found a cute yorkie girl "teacup" at a reasonable price she jumped at it. She has two young daughters too so I understand money is tight. The puppy was released at only 8 weeks and was a teeny tiny thing. No application, no questiins at all prior to purchase. So yesterday she had the puppy crated and gated so she could clean the house. Somehow little Remy made it out of both and the girls ran to catch her-there is also two semi-agressive dauchunds there. They caught her and broke the poor little girls neck!!!!! My heart goes out to her! !!!!!! She wanted this dog sooooooo bad and I know she and the girls are distraught! I hope this horrible tragedy can shed some light onto why breeders do ask questions about children and other dogs in the household. Its not to be snobby or picky for no reason. Yorkies and other toybreeds are terribly cute but they can also be extremely fragile. I was happy to fill out my application REST IN PEACE LITTLE REMY!!!! |
Wow, so sad, no puppy should be release before 12 weeks an NEVER a tiny pup to a family with toddlers.. that is my policy, if the family has children the puppy must be over 4 pounds at the time of release.. just my policy.. hugs, |
I am glad you made this post! The breeder we got Princess Sophie from wanted to know who lived in the home (any small children), what other animals were there. We brought our mini Schnauzer, Hansel, with when we first met Sophie because he is our primary concern with introducing another pup to our home. She also asked about him when we picked Sophie up. I felt really good about this as she was very concerned about where her puppies went. I even got an email after the first day asking about how she was doing. I really appreciated that. If you find a breeder who isn't interested in these things, they won't be interested in breeding healthy, happy pups. |
How so very sad :( May Remy rest in peace :littleang |
OMG....that is so sad! I am a grandma to 9 grandkids and I totally understand the importance of protecting these little ones! It sounds like a disaster in the making with 2 toddlers and 2 other dogs. I am sorry for her loss...... but she should have waited until the kids were older or at least chose a sturdier puppy for the family! :( This was something that could have been prevented!!!! |
Very sad...my heart goes out to them. Unfortunately, tragedy can strike even the most well-intentioned and careful. RIP, Remy. |

How heartbreaking! The first time I talked to my breeder, I let her know that I have a toddler, and asked if she objected to them. I had already been turned down by SIX different rescues because of my daughter's age. She has a 2 year old grandson who she lets "help" socialize her bigger pups. The tinies she will not place with a family with kids under 8. When I went to visit the puppies at 6 weeks, the entire family went. At home, the only time the two of them are together is if I am right there. Sarah is not allowed to run in the house, pick Sam up, or pet him unless I am holding him. She can throw a toy for him or feed him treats. If I can't keep both eyes on them, Sam is in his pen and Sarah is with me. I still worry about something happening. |
How tragic, and I'm sure you must feel so horrible, seeing it all unfold and nothing you could do. I feel sorry for the girls, they will have to live with the thought that they killed their new puppy. I sure hope the mom waits a while before she feels the need to get another dog, it sounds like her hands are full. |
Such an unnecessary event, just because a breeder did not care enough nor assume responsibility for the life of a puppy SHE was responsible for bringing into this world. My heart breaks for the poor innocent puppy, who needed someone with knowledge and someone who cared enough about her/him to be sure this baby's future was as safe and secure as possible. People become indignant, beligerant, hostile and insulting....but I have policies and rules and regulations about who I entrust my babies to, and I adhere to those limitations, without remorse. If this was one of MY puppies, I would be absolutely devastated....because it means I GOT STUCK ON STUPID AND LET MYSELF BE INFLUENCED BY THE PLEAS OR CRIES OR EXPLANATIONS OR PROMISES OR ANGER OR INSULTS....OR, GOD FORBID, MONEY, to release a baby into a situation that I KNOW is a disaster waiting to happen. Young children DO NOT HAVE THE DEVELOPMENTAL MATURITY to be around small dogs. I know YOU have exceptionally smart, gorgeous, well balanced, supervised, motivated, infants, toddlers, grandkids, etc......it only takes a second for that puppy to break and run across the room that can trigger this event with the same results. THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS....those of us that require interview applications, that ask questions, that "pry into your family structure" ....we KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE, WE HAVE SEEN IT TOO MANY TIMES, these results. Unfortunately, tomorrow, we will come to this forum and read about babies being sold way too young, to families with young kids, or to families that have had no structured education about puppies in general, Yorkies specifically. Dedicated, responsible breeders can not fix this....we talk and post until the world looks level in unfortunate results. All we can do is be responsible for our own little precious charges.....and hopefully buyers out there will get educated, STUDY, READ BOOKS, LEARN ABOUT OWNING A PUPPY OF ANY BREED and understand what is going on and why it happens. |
So very sad about what happened. RIP Remy |
I don't blame the breeder at all. I blame the owner. But again, I'm sure she was careful. it was just a horrible accident. |

Yikes that's so sad |
Reading stories like this make me ill and sad. My first contact with Mina's breeder was by email she sent me a 3 page questionaire. She wasnt offended when I sent my 2 page questionaire to her. She called me that evening and we talked for over an hour. Mina was already 13 weeks old. We still speak through FB and I still send her pictures of Mina. My heart hurts for everyone involved. |
