Yorkie Boys Fighting Not sure where to post this so apologies if this is in the wrong place. We have 3 yorkies (1 girl and 2 boys). The one boy is the baby (almost 2 years old now) of the girl and other boy. The 2 boys fight almost daily and it's getting more and more viscous (to the point where my wife found the youngest boy almost knocked out today). We acknowledge that we have no idea how to handle this situation but we have cages that keep the two boys separate when needed but neither dogs seem to calm down until they've been able to walk by each other with heads held high after a fight. I have phoned the vets and booked them in for a pre-castration check up but how likely is it that this will calm them down enough to stop them fighting? We're really worrying about it now and would hate to have to rehome one of the boys but it is so stressful worrying about when the next fight is going to be. Any advice would be much appreciated. |
Wow! I don't have any helpful answers but I feel for you! It sounds like a major problem!:( Hopefully someone will see this and give some input! Good luck! |
I think neutering them both could do wonders. Especially if the female is not spayed. Is she spayed? Hopefully so, as that will help. I mean, no one can guarantee they'll stop fighting completely...but taking those raging hormones out of the equation has to help, at least to a certain point. |
Hopefully things will be more peaceful when both little men are neutered. Good luck. |
Thanks for the replies. It breaks my heart to see them fighting - The dad has such a lovely temperament on his own, as does the baby. We fought really hard to keep the baby alive during the first few months of his life and couldn't bare to part with him, hand rearing him, etc... Maybe we've been too soft with him. Yes, the mother has been spayed as there were terrible complications when she gave birth so we didn't want to put her through that again. The mother is the calmest of them all but does stick up for her baby when needed :) |

I think neutering will help a lot. |
Fighting males I went through this experience. And how it worked out for me is I would hold the one who started the fight on his side every time as to correct him till he calmed down when they start to breathing normal they get all excited . Well after a couple of correcting now,. Things are quiet. You have to show who is the boss. Yes, neutering is good but my boys are both fixed.. Hope this helps Cheryl |

I guess we just need to allow as much time as needed but it's hard. |
