Motion detectors and Yorkies I'm thinking about putting a buglar alarm in my home, but I'm wondering if my 12 lb Yorkie will keep setting it off. Anyone with experience in this matter? Thanks a lot. |
I have a dog and a cat with motion sensors in my house. My cat is a jumper and has never set off the alarm. My Brandi is only 5lbs and the highest she can jump is up on the couch and that has never set off the sensor either. My sensors are kind of up high though. I have very high ceilings. I also think they have those sensors that are weight sensitive so you can check into them too. Hope this helps. |
I had outdoor lighting that was triggered by motion sensors, with alarms that went off inside the house, and a little feral kitty would set one off all the time, but was quite close to the sensor by jumping up on a nearby flat roof. However, my son has motion sensors throughout his home and a Dox/JRussell mix, and the alarm has never been triggered by the dog. I am certain there must be some kind of settings or type of sensors, or placement that allows your dog free roam of your home without 'law enforcement' sitting in your driveway daily. ;) |
We had motion detectors and cats before and the cats would set them off |

I have a pet friendly alarm, but when my two large house cats (16 and 13 lbs) get to wrestling, they can set it off. I wouldn't be concerned about one small dog setting it off though. The kitties have only set it off a couple times in the two years we've had it. The motion sensors give me a huge sense of relief knowing that my house is covered should someone break in. I would go for it :) |
I could be wrong but I believe there are sensors that will allow you to set the distance from the floor so say your dog can get on the couch, you can set the sensor higher than that. I also know that some cats can jump from the floor to the top of a door so I wouldn't know what to do about that. LOL Good luck hunting. I'm sure you will find what you need. |
I have a high tech system too, don't know how they do it but I can set it off but my pup doesn't....I have it set on a 5 minute delay so when its tripped I have 5 minutes to get it off... |
We were told that our cats would set off the motion detector so I assume the yorkie would too, instead we got glass break, however whenever our lab barks she sets off the glass break alarm. I would stick with the basic door and window alarms. |
