Stinky pup! Good morning everyone, hope you're all having a great day so far! I have a question, my Mia is on Ivermectin and medicated shampoo weekly for démodectic mange :(she's been on the tmt for less than a week but I already see great improvement, a lot less itching!! I've also changed her food to a hypoallergenic lamb and rice kibble and have added daily drops of fish oil to her food as well! Finally my question is... She has a lot of dandruff and she smells aweful:( she had this smell before the fish oil and other tents were added, I'm just curious if its the démodectic mange causing this odor, or something else? Anyone else have a stinky puppy out there?? Lol! |
Sometimes it takes some time for body odors to leave, especially if the dog was on a poor quality diet previously. The mange is not usually the source of smell. Have her ears been treated for fungus or other kinds of infection? Ears can often be a source of bad odors. The shampoo she is on may be drying to the skin so once she is free of mange you may want to switch her to something more conditioning. It could take several weeks to get things under control for this one. Hopefully with a quality food and the supplements you are giving you will see improvements soon |
Well, almost all dogs get a major yeast infection following mange treatment. Sometimes it depends on how harsh of chemicals have been used. But w/ many mange treatments, a subsequent yeast (candida) infection is almost a guarantee. Many vets will tell you that you'll likely have to treat for yeast after the Mange resolves. I'd contact your vet and ask if you should do a skin scrape and culture - or - if they just want to go ahead and treat for yeast. |

I love that I always learn new stuff on YT!! :) OP - praying your little one gets better and better. Keep us posted ok? :) |
If it is yeast, just make a solution of 1 part apple cider vinegar : 4 parts water. Spray it on the coat rub it in let dry. Just keep away from eyes. Helps with yeast and dandruff. Makes shiny coat. Also works great for humans I do a vinegar rinse at least once a week. |
Thanks everyone for all the advice and sweet sentiments! @hrossen11 the apple cider vin, you spray it on let dry and then rinse?? Or do you just leave it on? She has aweful dandruff as well! Thanks again everyone! I am soooo loving YT!! |
Hmmm... interesting. |
