How to make washable potty pads?
 
I was wondering if anyone had ever made their own? What fabric should I use and how exactly are they made?

I have 2 yorkies and there will be more lol,so disposable pads are not something I want to keep using.My 2 go through 2 a day already and they arent cheap here (Mallorca,Spain),and after reading about disposable pads I am super interested but we cant buy them here.Our items for dogs are VERY limited unfortunately.

I also would like to know how to make them! If we can't find anyone to tell us,, I am willing to order one to dissect and give you the information :)

Yeah...huh...it seems we know how to make so many things here, but not pee pads. I've used the washables for years (the white top ones). Recently, I bought some 'laminated' ones, and those are pretty awesome - they're so thin, but they absorb so well! And they look so much better than the white tops.

So, you may want to look for 'laminated cloth' for the top portion of the pad.

Have you tried Washable and reusable dog and puppy pee pads, belly bands, and diapers by T. Bumpkins & Co.. They ship Internationally and the pads look awesome. I live in Canada and they shipped shampoos to me VERY quickly.

Ok..I have finally looked it up and they look REALLY easy to make ;)

I found this patern easier because itīs made with things I have around the house.You will need one of those impermeable matress protector sheets (one made for a single bed will make 4 to 5 good sized pads) for the bottom of the pad,some towels (for the middle) and some pretty cotton fabric fot the top layer.

Basiclly you sew the 3 layers together and thatīs that ;) Make sure the bottom layer (the matress protector) has the plastic part facing down (the floor) and the fuzzy part facing inwards,because the extra material on the inside will make the whole pad that much more absorbant ;)

Iīm going to make mine this afternoon and see how it goes.I hope this has helped! :D

I meant pretty *flannel* fabric for the top,not cotton..sorry ;)

I have been using diaper changing pads that I had left over from my girls. They work great, and are SO much cheaper! I've found Carter's brand from Target to be the best. Gerber brand tends to pill up horribly in the wash.

I AM going to make covers for them, though. I will probably use quilting cotton just because of the design choices.

I was thinking about making my own as well. It just seemed that they wouldn't be too difficult and I was going to use waterproof mattress pads as well. Thanks so much for your post, I think it will help a lot of us here that want to switch to washable pads. Thanks again!!

I work at a hospital for children and they use the same kind of washable potty pads that I buy for Brandi. Can you look into hospital supply?

Too bad they don't ship to Canada - they could really increase their market...Guess I will have to make my own!

okay - I bought a waterproof mattress pad to cut up and already have lots of cottons and flannels...ready to sew pee pads! So...Yorkiemama78 did you make some? How did it go?
