do you feed your yorkie this? raw chicken neck. One of my friends told me that she has a friend with a yorkie. The breeder recommended raw chicken neck for yorkies? Just seem gross to me. I will probably never feed it to Jasmin but just wondering if you guys feed your yorkie raw chicken neck? |
Seems gross to me. I'd worry about listeria and salmonella. Not to mention poultry bones are sharp & splintery. Could be dangerous. |
Yep! It will not splinter because it's not cooked. But depending on the size of your Yorkie, it could be too big. Always watch your dog when eating raw, meaty bones. Zeus prefers quail over chicken necks though, but will still eat it as he just loves food :p |
I have had breeders tell me they give the raw chicken necks/turkey necks/ox tails.....they do a fantastic job of keeping the teeth clean! I do not know, I dont go there.... |
I am not a fan of raw. Yorkies have a lot of hair and I could not imagine the germs that gets in there hair and then gets on you and all around your house. |
I cant get myself to try raw.... i like to keep Toto long haired and i would hate to have a rotting smell and bacteria all over him. My Lea is very picky eater and i finally got her eating freeze dried food mixed with some all meat dry food. Are the benefits of raw really worth it? Im still relatively new to yorkies. |

Ody, my cat, was the first to go on raw (we adopted Zeus a year later). He had a skin problem that went away and now has the most beautiful coat ever. He went from sleeping about 18 hours / day to about 10 hours. There are others (no flea problems, no bad breath, and others) but the skin problem and no teeth problems are the top. Zeus has also done amazing on it. His coat was really rough and straw-like and now it's super soft. He used to have THE WORST breath and gas and now he doesn't have either, lol. Not to mention I can't complain about the price! Much more inexpensive than what I used to feed to Ody. Zeus was immediately put onto raw when we got him (after a transition for his digestion). BTW, I love that his name is Toto! I wanted Zeus to be Toto but got the foot down. :( |
I give mine one duck neck a week - the same day as bath day. I have to admit, it is a little gross. But they LOVE them! I feed them in the gated kitchen with tiled flooring so I can clean up easily. I also remove their bed & give them a beach towel each to get comfy on. There are no bones to splinter. The neck is mostly cartilage & meat. I do get a little nervous while their eating. So I stay in the kitchen with them & cook or catch up on email so I'm close if something happens. |
