Bad ears...? Recently purchase a very expensive ($2000) yorkie puppy that was suppose to be a champion blood... Beautiful puppy but I'm concern his ears are still only about 70% up... He is 4 months, 2 wks old... Should I be concerned? Is it possible a champion bloodline puppy could have floppy ears? Should I call breeder for a partial refund? He also weighs 5 lbs already, his father was only 8 lbs... ? |
Hi and welcome to YT! Do you have a pic you can post of him? How long is the hair on his ears? If the tips are not shaved, the weight of the hair can make them droop. Try that if they aren't shaved/trimmed right now. It's not unusual to have ears that don't stand on their own. If the trimming doesn't work (takes a few days or so so give it time), then you can look into taping the ears...just research and find out the proper way of doing it ok? Unfortunately, you really can't predict a Yorkie's weight..so many factors are involved. Is this an AKC registered pup? What champion line is he from? |
P-Nut's ears didn't start to stand until after his first grooming at about 4.5 months. We had his ears trimmed/shaved down and one stood up the next day, the other in about a week. |
Sometimes ears have a hard time while they are teething. Usually they are up for the first several weeks but may go down a bit if they are stressed or if the hair on the ears gets too heavy. Is it possible for a championship blood line to have floppy ears? Well, I guess it is possible but not probable. Did you see the pedigree? Did you see both parents? That is a lot of money to pay for a pet even from a show/breeder. Have you shaved the hair off his ears yet? |
Hi and welcome to YT. Others have already given great advice they have been though it before so I'm just saying welcome.:) |
My little Cooper is 12 weeks old, and his left ear has been standing completely up for the past couple of days, and his right ear is at half mast, so I am assuming that that one will stand up shortly as well. I'm sure that your little one's ears will stand up shortly as well. |
