Newbie - My Dream Came True! 2 Attachment(s) After hoping and searching for approximately 2 years, I finally became a Yorkie owner almost 2 weeks ago....his name is Oakley and he's 9 1/2 weeks old. Oakley is one spoiled puppy :). While doing some research on Yorkies, I came across this forum and am so glad I did. I quickly became a member as I couldn't wait to interact with other Yorkie owners. I, too, am going through the puppy biting stage and let me say this, Oakley is a pro at it, lol. I offer him a chew toy and do switch but he always wants my fingers. When I get home in the evening from work, I take off the heels and put on my footie socks. Well, Oakley loves them and constantly goes for the toes. I firmly tell him no and after about 15 minutes, he learned and left them alone. I look forward to doing some reseach on this message board and look forward to learning all I can about Yorkies. Here's Oakley! |
Hi and Welcome to YT. Oakley is adorable what a sweet face! It is hard not to spoil them. Buster has me wrapped around his paws and I love it! I look forward to more pictures of Oakley. |
Hi and welcome to YT. You will love it here. Sorry I can't give you any help on the biting thing, I don't pick up my baby till Sunday. LOL Guess we will be in the same boat!:) |
Welcome to YT! Oakley is adorable! :D |
Hello and welcome. Your little one is adorable. The biting problem seems to be quite a popular one. I am putting a link to a YT "stick" that is posted in the general training forum. Scroll down and you will see some good ideas. There is also a link to another website article. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...nhibition.html You are doing the right thing but your puppy is very young and is going to need a lot of training. Be consistent and it will eventually pay off. |
Welcome to YorkieTalk! Yorkies should stay with there moms until at least 12 weeks and one of the things there mom teaches them is biting inhibition so you are going to have to teach him that and I bet that is why he is betting so much. Also make sure you have nutrical and know the symptoms of hypoglycemia. He needs to eat every couple of hours and should not be left alone for more then a few hours at time because if he experiences hypoglycemia and no one is there to see it and help him it can result in seizures and death. Have you taken him to the vet for his first check up sense you have had him? That is something very important to do normally with in the first 48 hours or so. |
Welcome and congratulations. Such a cutie you got there. As for biting, check in to antlers. It saved our house. Good luck. |
Welcome to YT. Oakley is a cutie. |
What a sweet little guy you have. About the biting, that's normal, so just keep gently telling him no, no, and then give him a toy that he can bite or chew on. He will eventually learn. As one of the previous posters said, consistency is the key. Same with potty training. Lots of work when they're puppies, but if you stick with it when they're young, it pays off for a lifetime. It's a lot like having a small child. He'll have good behaviors and not so good. And they may come and go as he grows up, tests you, becomes more confident. So just love him and be consistent. He's still very young. |
Oakley is darling! He is very young and his behavior is not unusual for his age. Many here at YT can speak to behavior at your dog's age ! But, gee, he is so darn cute! |
Welcome to YT! What a cutie pie! |

Thanks to all for the warm welcome. I look forward to chatting with y'all and learning all I can about Yorkies. |
Oakley will bring so much love in your life! Get him lots of safe chew toys. The little rubber Kong was a hit. Yorkie teeth are sharp so don't get anything he can tear into and chew up and swallow. My JoJo was chewing on the wood furniture. Watch any cords, he may chew those. Just like having a baby! Enjoy your little fur blessing! |
Yesterday I stopped at Petco and bought Oakley the Nylabone puppy starter kit along with the pacifier ring and chicken chew ring. He took to the pacifier ring for a few minutes and then I introduced the chew ring. That was an instand hit as it kept him occupied for 45 minutes! At the rate I'm going with new toys, Oakley will need a toy box soon, lol. |
