I'm so excited to pick up my pup on Friday I can't STAND IT. :D

Based on the info I've gotten here (thank you!), I've decided to put a pen up in my office. I've got a small carrying crate to triple up as a "bring pup home", "take pup to the vet", and pen "bed/safe place." I've also got a little dog bed in the living room for when I have him out and about. I bought some paper pee pads but I'm a little nervous that he'll destroy them while I'm at work so I'm ordering a few of the brown washable ones online. I figure I'll put pee pads in every room so when I'm playing with him I can take him right over.

I'm going to worry about him while I'm at work. But I'm trying to make his pen as cool as possible - like switching toys out, etc. and I'll play some music so he doesn't feel so alone...

Ready for the big day!

Oh my goodness that is so wonderful! There is so much excitement of preparing for a new puppy & actually bringing them home :p Good Luck with Friday! Your set up sounds lovely.

Leave the tv or radio on so he will have some kind of noise instead of silence.

We leave TV on for Huey, but I have learned to NOT have it on Animal Planet. He hears the dogs or cats on the TV and goes nuts barking at them. I usually leave it on HGTV since he had finally gotten used to the doorbell on House Hunters and doesn't bark at that anymore.

How exciting! I'm so happy for you. It sounds like you have a great set up and your new furbaby will love living with you! We pick up on Sunday so we'll have lots to compare. Congrats!! Don't forget to post lots of picts!!

I have this as part of my home security system....I DO want to say, and this may have only been a problem for MY spoiled babies....I tried to soothe them and communicate with them one time over the audio....they went NUTS, hysterically trying to find me for what seemed to me, HOURS....and then they cried for hours, until they wore themselves completely out.....I NEVER did THAT again!!! So watch him on video cameras, but I wouldnt suggest trying to talk to him!

Lol I did this with Geno but he was already a year old before I did it. I just was curious to see what he does when I'm at work...turns out, he does nothing but sleeps...barely eats or drinks either, but boy when I get home, he starts chowing down on food. lol

Sounds like you are ready to go. Have you thought about buying a frame for your pee pads? Gracie decided to play with her pads so I went and got some really nice frames that lock the pad in place. It keeps the pee from getting on the floor and she didn't play with the pads after they were locked in the frame. I am here with her most of the time so I didn't have the problem of her possibly digging them while I was gone.

That is really awesome. You're in for such a great experience. I agree with leaving the tv on. Bailey loves to sit and watch it from time to time.

Finally got a pen tonight. Had to jury-rig it because it was too big. As it is, it already overlaps the upside down carpet it's on... :rolleyes:

Thanks for all the well wishes and ideas. I wouldn't have the slightest idea how to set up a web cam, but that would be so cool!

Set up looks great!! Congrats on the baby!! Yes, if you are going to use the paper pads, you might want to get a holder... Otherwise you might have lots of shredded messes!! Cathey (107barney) also makes washable pee pads in many different patterns (super cute) you might look into!! Remember to always wash them in scent free detergent. Cameras are fun too! My home security system has Cameras and I spy on my crew all the time! It's great! So excited for you!!!

I remember how exciting it was waiting for my little Trinket. I waited from the time she was conceived, hoping for a little girl. Now that she is here I can`t imagine life without her.

Good set up, except be careful where you place the crate. Not saying that this will happen to you but my Geno quickly learned to jump onto his crate and then jump onto the tv stand or whatever else they can jump onto or out of. Of course, he was months older than a puppy so I'm sure for now your set up will work out perfectly!

Yeah, I wondered about that! I'm probably going to switch to a plain bed soon. I've got one - it's in the living room right now. So I may switch them out. Do NOT want him getting out of that pen when I'm not home. That would be bad...

You know, I'm still debating whether or not to even get a pen. My main concern is we have new furniture in our den that has wood on it and I don't want to leave Princess Sophie alone in that room because of it. A pen would certainly solve that problem as we could put her in it and dash somewhere and we'd know she would be safe and so would the sofa. LOL Guess I'm really a tightwad as I don't want to spend a lot of money for something I don't plan to use longterm. I actually asked a friend if she knew of anyone who might be wanting to get rid of a small/travel baby playpen. I know I have to worry about Sophie tearing through the mesh sides. Anyone have a suggestion??

And I really looking forward to comparing experiences with you! It's gonna be really fun!!
