Is it too good to be true or am I just lucky? I've been reading about barkers, and Cappy doesn't bark at all! He will also let anyone hold him and is good with little kids....and is only 3 mos old.....am I lucky or is he just too young and won't develop those habits till he is older and more stubborn? We've had him for 3 weeks and he is 80% pad trained, will go for walks, has learned to sit, doesn't bark....loves everyone (he gets lots of attention when I take him shopping or visiting....), sleeps all night in his crate without whining... I of course think he is the best little man in the world and obviously have no problem bragging about him....but watch it bite me in the butt when he gets older!! LOL I need to get pics on the web bc I love all your cute pictures of your babies!! I can't wait to see what he is going to look like when he grows up!! |
Wow you are lucky! My first 2 yorkies were like that and stayed that way. |
I havent answered previous "barking threads" because i didnt want to jump the gun LOL - Chelsey is 1 year and Chanel is 9 months, neither of the two bark and i HOPE they stay this way. They are VERY friendly and will also let EVERYONE hold them (which i DONT like!!) they both walk up to anybody including total strangers and greet them :thumbdown |
He sounds like our Trace. He loves everybody and some he shouldn't, doesn't bark except at his reflection OR if he's sleeping here at work and someone comes in and startles him....then, of course, he's sorry and wants to give 'em kisses...... |
I think socializing him at his present age helps a lot. Some are barkers, from what I've seen and experienced, and some are not. I have even read of people who have had them start when they were around nine months old. Just keep your puppy socialized and maybe you'll be one of the lucky one's. My Muffin loved to bark. Kacee hardly ever barks. You just never know, I guess! :D |
I think I started a thread about barking - maybe not. My 14-month-old Yorkie has barked enough that I know he has a good little bark in him. He barks when someone gets him riled up playing - and he barks in the evening when he sees his or something else's reflection in the glass of one of my doors. Otherwise, he's usually quiet. I am so thankful that the Bichon I have is not a barker. If he were - I'm sure he and the new pup would be singing a lot of songs together. Sometimes you have have much worse barking problems with two dogs. They do keep one another going. CappysMom ---it sounds like you have an especially lovely little guy - very well behaved and very smart. I personally like my dogs to be friendly with everyone. It certainly helps other people enjoy them too. And, I'm always there - so, I know who they're visiting with. My new little puppy does like everyone. He just sits around with me - taking me for granted and all that - but when anyone comes visiting to my house, he goes bonkers - kissing, jumping, licking, loving and is so excited. It is great fun to watch him behave that way, and everyone else enjoys it too. This is what puppies are all about! Well - we can all see how the barking goes as our pups grow up. Carol Jean |
I too have stayed away from most threads when people complain (maybe too strong a word) or want advice about some issue their Yorkie has because Tatum seems so different from those other pups AND I hate to jinx it by saying she doesn't do that! She only barks when the moment really, truly calls for it. She has only chewed on something a couple times and that was when she was teething. She's just a very laid back dog. Oh yes, when she gets out in the yard with our Australian Shepherd ("outside dog"), they cut up and run and chase and bark their heads off but if she didn't do at least that much, I would worry that maybe she's NOT a "dog". I've come to the conclusion, because our previous dog - a toy poodle - was also very laid back (very "un-poodlish" behavior), that maybe it's just her surroundings and the way my family is that they have picked up on this. We are very laid back... like to lay around and veg out when we can and maybe they just sense this and "like master, like dog". Don't know.... maybe. I believe the socializing helps a lot too. Sounds like you have a great pup there! |
barkers I have had many who rarely barked..Kate is one. She is 6 months now and quite good. She communciates with her head and eyes. She cocks her head at the fridge for cheese..if she wants water in the kitchen, she sits by the sink and stares at me. Her water/food dishes are in the doggie playroom. Yorkies can be such stubborn little creatures..they can be so good and then for no reason, go through a rebellious stage..some are rotten from day one..LOL |
you are lucky! :) |
It sounds like you have a wonderful pup! I must give warning; however, when my Lea was 3 months (she's almost 5 months now) she never made a peep and I was excited to have a terrier that didn't bark (as they are known to do) NOW she barks at her reflection in the mirror as well as the fireplace (have no idea why) and then when she thinks she hears people coming. SO I'm not sure at what age they develop this but I will keep my fingers crossed for you. |
He sounds EXACTLY like my Rowdy - at 4 months he didn't bark at all - although he did go through a stage where he started barking at us to get our attention (I took care of that with proper correction). He is soooo very friendly, he loves children, loves other dogs, loves EVERYONE! He does bark when the lab/rotty mix next door barks - he doesn't bark at whatever the lab is barking at, he is always jumping on the fence barking at the lab! Go figure. So, take heart - Rowdy is 10 months old and he is sooooo good and well behaved and so lovey dovey!!! |
