Princess The Never Resting... Hello, all. I have not really posted in ages. Trying to catch up on everything & decided to start a thread. Princess is so obsessed with playing. She's sooo demanding about it. To the point of frustration for both of us. She's relentless from the time I get up until bed. I've tried ignoring her & she barks forever, never giving up. I hide her balls in the fridge so she can't smell them so she searches the house then barks forever. She NEVER forgets! She gets tons of attention & playtime but it's never enough.I know some will say she needs more excercise but she's a territorial maniac outside so I really limit it. Thanks in advance & I hope everyone is well! |

Maybe you should talk with a trainer to help you so you can take her for walks. Have you tried bully sticks? |
I stopped this behaviour in my play obsessed Yorkies by (1) taking them for daily walks, (2) putting away all play toys until I decide it's time to play and (3) engaging in dedicated and challenging play sessions outside, not just mindless throwing or tug games. You need to establish control over the toys and play time, so that your Yorkie learns that you start and stop the action, not her. Your dog shouldn't tell you when it's time to play, you should tell her. Develop a clearer on and off system with your dog by giving her a "play" and a "finish" command. Then, tire her out with regular challenging play sessions and long walks. You really need try to take her for more walks. Dogs have a primal urge to walk and run, and they will become obsessed with other things if they can't release their energy somehow. Develop a schedule that your puppy can stick to, so that she knows that she will get played with every single day. |
Hyper-active OMG, I wish I wasn't in such a hurry this morning. I haven't posted on this forum in over 2 years but just had to reply here. Colt is 4 years old now and has been my hyper-active puppy since I have had him at 10 weeks old. Even as a puppy, he would sit on the back of my couch, his head and eyes going back and forth just knowing he had to do "something" but what. Now as older, he is very relentless with wanting my to throw his toy so he can bring back (which once you start, he won't stop, and I mean for hours!)Getting him to sleep at night is almost impossible. maybe once a week he'll crash real hard. Other than that..he is full alert and ready with a very aggressive personality. Dont get me wrong, he's not mean aggressive but his personality is bold. I have another yorkie and also a maltese along with a 25lb maine coon cat. Colt weighs about 5 to 6 lbs. Bigger than Charlie, my other yorkie but smaller than my 10 lb Maltese. But he is the alpa of them all...lol...I wouldnt trade his personality for anything except maybe alittle more sleep...lol |
