Advantage multi? Asking for my mother in law.. Shes got a biewer too, and uses advantage multi on him. Hes 3.4lbs (still a puppy, not a teacup!) She noticed today when she was bathing him that hes got a couple of fleas. I applied the stuff myself and have her dog on the same schedule as my 2...so I know its not that she forgot. Its only been 2 weeks (the 14th)..if hes got fleas already, and he never really goes out except on the back porch, never on the grass, is he really protected from hw too? I made sure she didnt bathe him 2 days prior or after, and I separated his hair and applied to the skin. He will NOT take pills, he doesnt let anyone near his mouth, something that I have her working on with him...but since the vet gave her that for his first puppy visit we decided to just use it instead of waste it....but Im not sure if it works. |
I'm not sure about Advantage Multi. Mandie takes a separate heart worm med than her flea prevention. Hopefully, someone else will have a thought on this.. |
Joey is on trifexis. Carley is separate meds because hers were on backorder so I just bought a bunch of hw med at once, and then I buy the flea meds monthly. |
this is good info. im curious about what others use. |
I don't know about this specific one but we started with advantage and it never worked for us. We switched to frontline plus, but now use Revolution for ease, as it is a safer heartworm preventative for my epileotic dog and we get a multidog discount from our vet so...plus one treatment is just easier. |
My two are on Trifexis so I can't help. But if her pup is getting fleas and he rarely goes outside, could she have some type of infestation in the house? Or have any other dogs been over recently to visit who may have brought the fleas with them? |

I was worried about the same thing, and when Joey goes over to play there are no fleas. |
Diatenacious Earth (I know I must of spelled it wrong) only food grade organic is safe, you get it at the garden centers I buy bulk-great product to treat yard and home to eliminate any infestation. Our neighbors never treated the outside dogs and we would get fleas comming from the shared fense I literally made a DE line on the ground against the fence-problem solved. |
When I lived in Maryland, my landlady had about 5 outside cats. I had a dog and 3 ferrets that never went outside. However, we got a bad infestation of fleas to the point where we had to treat the animals, go to a hotel and bomb the house. It was the flea eggs coming in on our shoes. Crazy! Hate fleas! |
We have been using Centinel for years with no problems with fleas. |
We use frontline plus so I can't help |

DE works forever essentually...however rain and wind remove it ..wind obviously blows it away and rain causes it to seep into the soil-but its good for the soil. In your home it will last a long time seeping through carpet to the pad and depending on how good you vacuum is it will last down there unforuntately fleas lay eggs near the surface and hop along the surface so DE needs to be on the surface and vacuuming removes it. Having said that treating an indoor flea infestation with De you leave it on surface 24-48 hours repeat every week for 6 weeks to end the entire flea cycle. Personally we use it for dust mites as my son is allergic to them. Mosquitos lay eggs in water water dillutes and counteracts DE, will iy kill an adult mosquito yes but don't put DE purposefully in the air of your home research on its ability to do lung scratching when inhailed is two sided-side with caution. We use DE in a 'hand duster' on our roses to kill afids as well. If you buy DE from Lowes etc in nice little prepackaged name brand bags you are paying for packaging. Mine is $22-27 for a no name white bucket that's about 20 pounds, why the whole sale price varies by season the garden store couldn't tell me they just mark it up 30%for above cost. PLEASE BE SURE YOU BUY ORGANIC FOOD GRADE DE!!!! DE comes in 2 forms organic for garden use and chemical for purification (like used in industrial pool filters) chemical DE WILL KILL YOU. It is highly toxic topeople, pets plants and while used at your lical pool or hotel pool its used by the part per million in water...so don't go to the industrial supply place and get DE. |
