Morkie Coat I have a 7 week is morkie. We just got her a couple days ago. I read that yorkies and maltese only have 1 coat. When I part Sophie's hair, she seems to have an undercoat. Her hair is black and gold at the roots. Is this just the way puppy hair is? The black hair feels like human hair but the gold feels very thin and soft. Any ideas. I'm trying to post a pic but it keeps saying that the file is too big. I'll keep trying though |
you have to reduce the size of your pic...you can do a google search for a free picture redure if you dont have a program. thats how baby hair works and the new growth coming it will i guess be the adult fur?? i think. thats how it was for my cedric and keylo anyway. they were black and then when the gold grew in the black got tangles very easily. |
Hi and welcome. Yorkies are a single coated breed, but, with a mixed breeds, it can be difficult to predict what the 'finished product' will look like. Breeders who breed more than one breed and/or intentionally breed mixes can sometimes, intentional or not, get mixes where they are not quite sure what is in her past...which might result in a double coat...if that is what you are seeing. I am not saying this is what happened, just mentioning there 'could' be a possibility she inherited non-Yorkie/non-Maltese DNA as well. She is very cute in your avatar...if you resize the photo, you can upload it. Photoscape is a free download and works great...very easy to re-size photos. I would love to see her in a larger photo! :) |
Hi and welcome to YT! Congrats on your new baby, she's a doll! Please research the signs and be aware of the very possible risk of hypoglycemia in such a young pup. She really is too young to be away from her mother and littermates right now so you need to be with her and very aware at all times for the next several weeks. As for her coat, it is very much likely that you are seeing different stages of growth and not really an "undercoat." These pups and their coats change so much, so quickly, for a long time. =) |
I just uploaded a couple of pics into my album. Maybe you can look at them and tell me what you think? |
I totally agree with you angelfae. I didn't know I was getting her. My husband brought her home to surprise me. Men just never think to ask questions. I was a little upset about her age but I totally fell in love with her!! She's my 3rd child, the other 2 are humans, lol. I'm definitely watching her like a hawk to make sure she's eating and drinking well |
The Maltese has a much thicker coat than a Yorkie. At your baby's age it is just too soon to know what the coat will turn out like. Most pups start to get their adult coat at around 10 months of age. She is very cute |
He is adorable. I can't help on the coat question though. |
She is a little cutie, that's for sure. But, about her coat, I think you may need to wait a while to see what she will have. Puppies change sooooo much. :D |
Sophie is very pretty. I don't know anything about their coats but I also have a Morkie. I am sure you will take very good care of her. My Amy is changing every day and can't wait to see how she turns out when she is 10 months old. |
I can't offer any info on her coat either but she is a little cutie!! Congrats and welcome to YT!! |
The black and gold can be the yorkie in her. Small breed pups should not leave there moms until 12 weeks so sense she is so young you really need to make sure she eats every couple of hours and she should not be left alone for over an hour at a time because she is at a very high risk for hypoglycemia so please study the symptoms keep nautical on hand. |
Coat 3 Attachment(s) Trixie is also a Morkie, she is 6 months old now. She has a few almost little white patches but is getting a lot more blonde looking lately. Here are some pictures.... |
Another CT Morkie owner. Awesome |
Welcome to Yt! I have a morkie grandpup, but his daddy is a parti Yorkie so he looks more like a beiwer... But, your baby is so young, you have many surprises in store as far as coloring and coat! Good luck with your baby and beware of hypoglycemia! If you have any questions, you have found the right place! |
