Update on Princess Sophie's Arrival
 
Well, I talked with my Vet and asked about the baby rice cereal..she said that if I could get hold of her by 8 weeks that would help because she really doesn't want any dog eating that. I told her we were aiming for 12 weeks but she insisted that we needed to get her away from that as soon as possible. As long as she's at least 2 pounds we should be fine. The Vet recommended we travel with some Kyro syrup on hand and keep a close eye on her on the way home. Then be prepared to be tired for a long time as she would like us to keep an eye on her for awhile. I have em'd my breeder and we are planning on Feb. 8th as the target date. That will have her at 9 weeks as my DH's work schedule will not permit going the previous weekend. All this is contingent on her being at least 2 pounds.

So the official announcement is we will be bringing Princess Sophie home in 16 days on Feb. 8th.

Congratulations. I would recommend though instead of Karo syrup you get Nutrical a puppy supplement instead. Get her away from what? It is advised that most small breed puppies stay with their moms until 12 weeks. Is your vet knowledgeable about small breed dog issues. I am not knocking you vet it is just small breed have different issues. I look forward to seeing pictures of Princess Sophie.

I'm sorry, I disagree with your vet but would almost never tell you to ignore your vets advice over mine. Again I disagree, I instead would get the food you want the pup to eat deliver it to the breeder and ask her to feed it that since you don't want to have to change it. You don't' have to criticize your breeder or insult her a polite conversation.

And for the record, 25 years ago I fed my 11 black lab puppies rice cereal with goats milk and kibble, I don't know why I just did. All but one lived very long lives...!!

Do what you think is best but I would resist bringing this pup home even before 10 weeks.

I talked to the vet about the Nurtical and she does have it. Told me I could pick it up prior to picking up our puppy.

I do respect your opinion, what people say in this forum is important to me.

My Vet however, suggested that because all her litter mates are gone (she is with an adoptive mommy who's puppies have already gone to their furever home, and isn't interested in nursing Sophie any longer, we get her on a better food and that because there is so much "socialization" going on between 8 and 12 weeks, she would rather have her socializing with us as her new family. She is ready to see her the next day. I have a lot of respect for my Vet, she has helped us through some very difficult days. She held our hand when we were loosing our Gretel, calling every day and checking on how she was doing, and yes she does have experience with very small dogs. I trust her.

I do respect that anyone has the right to have a different opinion than mine. That is how the world goes around. I'm ok with that and hope you are too. Thank you for your concern, I do appreciate it.:)

I just read you answer above under those circumstances I understand why she feels it would be better to have her with you. I am so glad you do have a great and caring vet that is so important.

My husband and I didn't leave Georgie alone for more then 2-3 hours the first few weeks after he came home at 10 weeks. If you have any questions or concerns we are here to help. Looking forward to more pics of Princess Sophie:)

Thanks everyone for the info and support. I am a Homemaker so my days will all be at home for a while. Just like having a skin baby! LOL

That's great and yes it really is like having a human child LOL. I actually think sometimes Georgie is more high maintenance then my 5 year old;)

I appreciate the links. I followed the first thread about hypoglycemia (when it was posted) with great interest because I know this is an issue. I had gotten a first aid kit list from our vet and it contains almost every item on this list. I can easily add the few other items quickly.

I know we are in for a real ride here but we have raised several puppies to become wonderful pets and even though more knowledge is needed to successfully raise a Yorkie baby, I feel we are up to the challenge. Thanks everyone!!

I was curious also but I know how in writing sometimes things come across harsh or just not meant the way it was intended to sound, but yea your case was like mine... Mom and dad were at the vet getting fixed her two brothers were gone to there furever home and as soon as I picked my little girl her two sisters were leaving right behind her so she would have been all alone. I was lucky in that she was already potty pad trained, biting is another issue lol I was hoping Guinness would help teach her right from wrong but it appears I was the one that was wrong because they lay around biting each other :p
I am lucky that I have Guinness so she can not feel alone with huge scary humans... But she has done great after the first day of getting adjusted to our house and my wild child 1 1/2 year old... The only scare we have had was a tummy virus that within an 30 minutes of signs we had her at the vet on an IV and started med's... But she has been great. I did have to ay the hand feed the diva game once but now I can not stop her from eating :p

I can only speak for myself but with both of mine I have had to fix biting hard by making a yelp noise like mom would then biting them on the scruff of the neck like mom would.... Yes I know it sounds stupid and crazy but Guinness is great now and will play bite but when he does his teeth ever so lightly tap your skin and he growls his big bad mean dog way and that is all..... So not saying it works for everybody but it did for us.

We did that with our schnauzers and they both have/had very soft mouths. Thanks!:)
