He wont eat his food..hes getting alittle skinny i think....he got sick 2 days ago....but is running around playing like normal. all he wants to eat is human food.....i dont know what to do!!! So much for a caring vet that just doesnt look at the money!!!   |
Most Vets and medical offices require payment at time of servi :aimeeyork ce. |
Part of the responsibility for pet ownership means having the money for vet care. Imagine the position you'd be in if you ever had to visit the emergency vet. One appointment for us cost $900.00. Perhaps you can borrow the money from someone. Good luck and I hope he feels better |
:If he is eating table food, then he is eating, right? Sounds to me like he is just refusing dog food so he can get what he wants! If he is running and playing ,etc. he sounds like he is winning the battle of what he wants. If he is sick, then you must take him to a vet. They can go down really fast these little ones.! Pat |
I talked to the vet.... |
If he is eating table food and playing I wouldn't worry to much. Just fix him some chicken and rice for the time. I am not vet by no means. Just my opinion. One vet bill Last December cost me $1300. It was a big bill but I would have done anything to get my Toto better. |

That's such a shame they won't take a payment plan - one of my vets has done that for me a few years back - Is there a way you can give them a postdated check ? I agree with the Chicken / rice mix - most of them will eat that and you'll at least feel good about him having food in him - GOOD LUCK |
I totally understand where you are coming from. The holidays put a real strain on most of us financially. I am by no means an expert but it sounds like your little one is going on a hunger strike because he wants people food. My uncle has a maltese who is addicted to personal pan pizzas (I know that is ridiculous and I have told him so) and she refuses to eat her dog food. Once she went for 3 whole days without eating because she couldn't have her pizza!! They can be really stubborn sometimes. |

It's standard for vets to require payment at the time of service. Several times, mine have told me to go home and they'll bill me. (But this is because I have gone to them so long and have always paid - even huge bills - at the time of service). The times they let me go were when - they were extremely busy and didn't have time to get my bill ready right then - and another time I put one of my dog's to sleep and was crying so hard, she said, "You just go home - we'll send you your bill." Could you have put your bill on a credit card? I'm not a credit card user (other than paying for whatever I have charged at the end of every month). But - I do think using credit cards for emergencies is one of the good reasons for having them. --- Apart from all that - it doesn't sound like your dog is really sick....He just wants to eat what he wants to eat and nothing else. If you can't afford a vet bill, I'm not sure I would run him in for this reason. I think there is a lot of people food that is very good for dogs. My dogs eat only dry dog food (which they don't like at all) and people food. They eat their dry dog food, chicken, meat, vegetables, carrots, cheese, and some of many different things I cook for myself. I asked my vet about this and she said that it is perfectly healthy - but remember that a lot of some foods should be eaten in smaller amounts than others. ------ Keep an eye on your little guy - he really may not need to go to the vet. You may just have a "picky eater." And, it would be natural for him to lose a little weight, if he's not eating as much as usual. His getting sick "two days ago" may never happen again. Of course, do take him to the vet if you feel he is really sick. Good luck - Carol Jean Good luck! Carol Jean |
