i need your opinion Im trying to buy a yorkie for my girlfriend. I found this puppy, the lady selling her said she is purebred but doesn't have papers. Both parent were on site and looked like yorkies but i thought the puppy looked mixed because of the lack of fluffy hair around its face, it doest look like the ones i have seen in pictures. When i asked the lady selling the puppy she said the fluffy hair comes later. The puppy is 9 weeks old. What do you guys think? |
I personally would not trust her. If you want a pure bred yorkie go to the YTCA website. A reputable breeder does not let her puppies go before 12 weeks. Also check out your local rescues also. |

I suppose you could wait....I know my girl Maggie was good and fluffy by 12 weeks when we got her, so it can't be long now if she's yorkie. I am no dog pro. I got Maggie at a pet store (I know I know...but shelters weren't working out and she was so sad and overpowered by her cohabs in her pen..she begged to come home with me). She is almost 3 and she is a yorkipoo and she is all we could ask for and healthy too. (knock wood!) In my album is a pic of her at probably 12-13 weeks...fluffy fluffy. Some yorkie pros should be along soon to tell you what they look like at 9 weeks. Is there more than one pup? Is there something that makes you think the dogs on site aren't the parents? Does it seem like more dogs live there? Did you look at the property to see if they are keeping more dogs. Obviously you need to be careful. If you get the dog be sure to get it checked. And obviously do not pay "yorkie" price without proof she is yorkie. Be suspicious and be careful. If you turly want a purebred then this is not the breeder for you. If you just want a cute pet, then maybe. HEY, haven't people talked about some kind of dna test? Isn't there a cheap version? How long do they take? Maybe make a deal that they will refund you if she is not all yorkie? (in writing-ironclad language). You could swab the pup right there in front of them and mail it in. |
1 Attachment(s) Well this is my Guinness at 12 weeks |
1 Attachment(s) And my Stella at 9 weeks both have papers |
The puppy should have some fluffy hair by 9 weeks. |
I would be wary about this breeder especially since she does not have papers. Yorkies can have many health and genetic issues so you really need to make sure they come from a good breeder. Check out the YTCA breeders, our featured Yorkie for sale forum here on YT ( just remember to check out the breeders here too). You can also browse through the photo section here many breeders post pictures of their new pups for comparison. Remember this is a lifetime investment so it is best to take your time. Best wishes on finding your Yorkie! |
My Blazer was fluffy by 6 weeks (but he has a cotton coat, so that may be part of it.) The breeder that you've been talking with seems sketchy to me and I say GO WITH YOUR GUT! If you feel like something isn't quite right with the situation, get out of it! |
