Is this okay? Whenever my brother or dad are around they play crazy with Joel(I don't know what it is with guys doing this lol) and make him get psycho and he gently play bites and Joel LOVES it. He knows not to play like that with anyone else. So I'm wondering if that is okay or if it's not? |
I am no expert, but our Jack and Izzy both "play bite" or "mouth." Jack is a little more rough than Izzy - I think it is okay as long as it is just playing and nothing more serious - but maybe I'm wrong. Actually it is one way we play with Jack and he has never bitten us really hard. So actually, I'm of absolutely no help. Sorry. :rolleyes: |
Yeah, I already taught him with everyone else there's no play biting or even mouthing because later when he gets in trouble he gets sassy and nips when he's mad but with my dad and brother it's all play:) |
My dad does that and I do it some but either way she knows only to mouth us and not anyone else and wont anyone else and when we say ok game over she goes back to normal. |
I think it can be a useful way to teach and test bite inhibition: knowing how hard to bite, when to bit, and when to stop. My boys play bite with me and their grandpa, and no one else. (Max gives me love bites on the nose) So, let the boys be boys. :D |
Bailey and I like to rough house where he light bites me. He can get real crazy but he never bites down hard. Sometimes when I pet him and he thinks it's play time, I tell him: No biting. His bite turns to a lick! I just laugh. |

When Tibbe is really excited during rough play, which he loves about more than anything, he play bites out of passion and joy - and not knowing what else to do. Being dogs, with no hands or arms to use for hugging, rubbing, patting, caressing or ways to really express themselves besides licking, what else can they do to express strong feelings and intensity? Seems to me dogs play bite a lot with each other naturally, especially during intense play, after chases in play, etc., and unless it hurts you, I don't see a problem. Tibbe knows not to bite hard through Bite Inhibition Training so he just bites away when really pumped up. I love it and it seems natural as long as he keeps it painless. If he does bite a little hard, which, being a dog he can do ever so often, I say "Uh oh"! and stand up, walk off. Game over. |
Guinness knows to play bite where his teeth will barely tap your skin and he growls and he also love bites your nose... Stella on the other hand is still going in for the kill... I hate puppy teeth :mad: |

Lol puppy teeth are horrible, I think I would rather be bitten by a full grown dog. Mine play bite each other alot but they don't us don't know why but am glad lol. |
