Not sure what to do. Sadie has 0 fleas; however she has become very itchy I switched from people shampoo/ conditioner to an oatmeal dog shampoo as of last night. She is still itchy not as bad I was wondering what I can do to relieve it. Vet says she is fine that its probably dry skin or the other shampoo I was using. I didn't know if an olive oil or lotion will be beneficial ? |
I use coconut oil on them and on their food. |
My mom's dog has skin issues. She uses a medicated shampoo. She gets it at Petco. I don't remember the name of it but if you have a Petco close by maybe they can help. |
Definitely no lotion, and do not use olive oil over large areas of skin. I would try coconut oil supplement (extra virgin, organic: I like Nutiva from the Vitamin Shoppe and CocoTherapy from Oscar Newman, which you can buy online). I give my boys a fish oil supplement. Try to extend time between baths, but don't let her get too dirty, which can cause itchiness. Massage and comb her frequently to stimulate the skin. |
During the last 24 hours her itchiness seems to have eased quite a bit I think it was the shampoo I'm using an oatmeal shampoo from petsmart now the other was human shampoo ugh I should of never used that soooooooo stupid. But thank heaven it's getting better now |
Ive actually read that olive oil works. Just rub some on his/her coat and rinse. Although, ive never tried it so I wouldn't know for sure. Worth a try though. |
It's winter, the air is dry and I think just about every animal in this air is itchier than usual. Do you use a humidifier? I would also ad the coconut oil supplement to her food...I give it to mine and I use it myself. Also, get a good dog shampoo that isn't oatmeal based...the oatmeal can actually dry their skin more and end up making the problem worse. I use John Paul pet products, they are tearless and rinse out easily...we've never had issues with this shampoo. |
