Started mine as puppies. |
I also started Bentley as a puppy. You can get them used to being combed by you and all. |
When i got sadie she had extremely short hair so i started growing it.welll i decided not to have it long on her face. I posted a pic yesterday. |
1 Attachment(s) I love keeping Belle's coat long. She doesn't mat at all, we're very lucky. I bathe her at least once a week and I also oil her coat. Her coat still doesn't reach the floor and she turned 2 in November. I wish it would grow faster, but she is a true terrier and very active inside and outdoors so I think it also breaks off. I love the look of the full coats, although as a groomer I do LOTS of short cuts on other people's yorkies and I think that looks very cute, too. Belle has never had her face trimmed, I just tip her ears. But her facial furnishing also don't grow as you can see in this picture. She also doesn't have much hair for a top knot. I have to use clips to keep it out of her eyes. |
1 Attachment(s) Here's what Sadie looks like now I didn't do it perfect but in a couple weeks it should look better. |
Thanks for recommending Pantene Ice. I bought some and can't wait to try it out! |
3 Attachment(s) We cut Jack's hair twice a year - once around April/May and again in August. His hair does not grow very fast but I do like to keep it a little longer for the winter so he's not so cold. I had grown it out once (the first year of his life) but he looked too much like a girl and I was always correcting people when we would be out walking: Them: Oh, she is so pretty. Me: Oh, she is really a he. So we had him cut in the puppy cut and I love it. So easy to groom - really he has fabulous hair and I only have to brush him once a week when I groom him. He never has any matts or tangles. Izzy we are trying to grow out but she still has puppy fur and has a few matts around her front legs that I have been trying to work out. I need to brush her at least once a day, sometimes more because she looks like a ragamuffin. We are able to finally pull her hair back on her head but because it is so fine, a few strands still tend to pup out of her clip. Here are pics of Jack and Izzy. Oh, and I do use Pantene conditioner on them also - it works great. Pic 1 - What Jack looks like now. Pic 2 - What he looks like in the summer Pic 3 - Izzy with hair pulled back on top of her head. I just realized most of the pics I posted of Jack are in my avatar... |
Yorkie Hair it can be an Obsession. I have 5 Yorkies and only Abba Daddy is in full coat. His hair is thick, strong, silky and does not tangle very easy. He is almost two years old and his hair is just now touching the top of his feet. Ginny Joy's hair grows fast and thick, but mats close to the skin. I keep it in a very short puppy cut. I did leave her enough for a top knot or it can be left down in short bangs. Rubin is a 'red-legged Yorkie. His coat never changed from black and deep rust-red. His hair does not grow long, never tangles and is perfectly straight. Gracie has a fine, thin, and brittle hair that mats. It grows fairly quick and we keep it in a medium puppy cut with a top knot, beard and ear fringe. Julia is a Parti Yorkie who still has a puppy coat. |
2 Attachment(s) Mia was cut very short when we got her August, 2011, and only her face was trimmed once. She has silky, thick hair that grows fast and rarely tangles. I have attached pix so you can see how much she grew out between the 2nd day we got her, 8/14/11 when she was 17 months old, and 11/25/12. She doesn't look shiny in the 8/14/11 photo, but it's just the outdoor lighting. lol |

I think my boys break off their hair too running around outside. My boys' facial furnishings, especially Max's, grow more if I trim frequently. I need to trim Max's body more often. It doesn't quite reach the floor like Teddy's. Attachment 380072 |

ZoE was 2 in December and her coat still isn't floor length, and her face is a short mess. She hair is silky, and she rarely tangles, but it is so sloooowww growing & it isn't strong & seems to break easily. I don't really trim it, just condition the heck out of it, so maybe I'm doing it wrong. Sounds like I need to start trimming. |

I believe that like human hair, trimming the tips prevents split ends and strengthens the hair shaft. Maybe there is more to it, but my hair seems to grow faster the more I trim. ETA: use good scissors, very sharp. The better the cut, the more benefit to the hair shaft. I have always read here that the silkier and finer the coat, the slower it grows. |

1 Attachment(s) My computer has been so uncooperative, but I finally was able to get some up of my Bentley :) He just had his bath. I use two hair bands right now to hold the shorter hairs that are growing. His nose hairs are SO close to laying flat! I just have to be patient! He sure is :) Attachment 380085 |
Bentley looks beautiful after his spa treatment! |

I've always admired your boys' coats. They are gorgeous. I'm going to have to try trimming her ends to see if I can get her facial furnishings to grow more. |
