Hubby had to rescue the dog! Its 12 degrees here this morning! My husband let the dogs out to go pee and Fletch ran to the far side of the yard over the snow, peed on a bush (the yard is not that big) and then he made his way back about 1/2 way across the yard where he went poop. He tried to walk back but his paws froze and he ended up laying down on the snow. This was all less than 3 mins outside. My DH had to run across the yard in socks to go rescue him!!! Poor little guy comes upstairs and jumps on the bed where I am before hubby got there and hes just laying there when Hubby comes in he tells me what happened, so I checked his paws and he had little chunks of ice stuck between the pads I had to get out for him. Poor baby!!!! Its COLD out there! |
its freezing!! lolas the only one who goes out and she didnt even want to this morning. ur dh is hero running out in sox.. hope hes ok..or they are both r might wanna check dh's feets too. yikes. |
Aw, he needed both Mama and Daddy to rescue him, what a lucky boy he is to have you both. |
oh my, that was quick, glad you hubby was such a good daddy. We clear a grass patch just outside our door and Lola goes out on a tether, so she can't get out of that area. But given the chance she seems to like to walk and play in the snow so I will have to be careful about that. Do you clear an area for the pups. |
DH said he was busy doing that and he didn't notice if Dex went poop, but clearly Dex didn't because he was mental for me to take him out 10 mins later, so I did and he was mental outside. Trying to find a place to poop and not wanting to stand on the snow, I felt so bad for my boys this AM! DH too! He's such a good guy!!! He's taking the boys to the spa today too! :) |
What a gooooood daddy that baby has! Bravo to daddy braving the cold, wet snow in his socks to get his little dog! |
oh what a good daddy!!! That is what I don't miss with the snow.. the pictures are beautiful but.... |
Ha ha, been there! We don't have snow on the ground, but the grass was frozen crunchy this morning from rain yesterday. Poor Columbo went back and forth and back and forth along the edge of the grass for about 10 minutes looking for a place to poop where the grass wasn't crunching. Finally, he gave up and went back in. The sun's out now, so I'm going to take him out to try again... |
We snow blow a path for them in the backyard to do their business... but we got about 5 inches of snow on weds and the guys were tiling the floor and didn't stop to take a break at all. Not even to shovel the driveway! So now its soooo cold, the snow froze solid and the snowblower won't work in it. Thats why there is no path for my boys. But actually it's so cold, and the snow is so hard, they can walk on top of it. My Fletch is a bit bigger at 13.5lbs so some steps he goes through it, which must have been what got snow up in his pads. Dexter just sails across the snow, he's only 7.5lbs. |
Glad Daddy was there to save him! Poor baby! Sounds like Fletch is going to see some warmed sockies on to get those tootsies warmed up! Were DH's footsie's frozen too? How the heck did he run out there in socks! |
He came back into the bedroom holding his wet socks. He must have run fast! LOL We know that Fletch has a tendency to go too far and not be able to come back on his own sometimes... so when we don't go down in shoes, we know we take a chance that we get cold feet rescuing him. LOL He has done this many times. We see the warning signs, where he starts lifting one leg, then another, until he just can't take another step and lays down right where he is. He had me go out in thigh high snow to rescue him once. He didn't go through the snow, but I did with every step! |
LOL Fletch sounds like Peanut- Has to leave his mark everywhere!! Boys... |

I used to have a little Min Pin that did this exact same thing. The first time it happened it scared me to death until we figured out it was the cold. She was a special needs baby with nerve damage to a hip and I often wondered if that made the cold worse. She was the most thin skinned, cold blooded baby I ever had. I hardly never seen her during the winters because she was under a blanket somewhere. :) |
Poor thing:( I've had to do that a few times with Joel. |
Oh what a brilliant daddy! :D I love it when they 'save the day'.....:) We've got about 5" of snow here at the mo - Harry's only 2 years old and has only seen it once before....he went flying out just now to pee, realised something was wrong and different, ground to a stop....and skidded about 20 feet  :D The look of shock and confusion on his face was amazing!!! :D Sally + Harry x |
When it is that cold outside, and the babies go out to take care of business, if they are affected like your baby was, you have to be so careful because their core temperature is dropping and that slows the heart down to the point where it CAN stop!! So, your hubby reallly DID save his life by going over and picking him up and carrying him inside to warm up.....if he would have remained laid out on the snow for any length of time, it really could have killed him! Good for hubby!!! They are our heros arent they!!! |
Such a nice daddy! I can't even imagine freezing stuff, especially snow!! Yuck. |
Oh yeah, hubby is well aware that their life is sometimes in his hands and if anything happens to them that is IN his control, well he wouldn't want to deal with ME! HAHA They were only outside for 3 mins, supervised, so there was no jeopardy to their lives. Dexter was fine and still running around, but Fletch got snow up in his pads and that was probably cold and hurt a lot too! I was literally picking it out from deep inside his pads. Poor baby! DH claims that the dogs "are ok." and maybe he means it, but he takes care of them soooooooo good and definitely acts like he loves them. Hes always talking to them, letting them cuddle with him, petting them, playing with them, letting them out, hand feeding Dexter bc he won't eat his food before Fletch finishes his own food and comes sniffing around Dexter's bowl. Almost every morning, Fletch gets up goes to DH and DH gives him a rubdown petting that makes Fletch groan with joy at each rub! Its ridiculously funny!!! Today he made them a spa appt and took them there and planned his day around dropping them off and picking them up... and he always sends me a pic of them all groomed when he picks them up! Now, you tell me he does not love them!!! LOL |
Your husband's definitely a keeper! I loved seeing the snow when I visited my parents but I am so happy to be back in warm California as I have become quite the hot house flower. |
Awww poor baby good thing he had a good daddy to go rescue him. |
