I live in a zoo and it's killing me. Where to start.... Hmmmm let's start with the fact that I have 4 cats and a 9 month old yorkie. (Wallee). I take Wallee for 2 long walks a day and still he is just so busy (hyper) all the time. I he runs around demanding to be played with, to be let out every 30 minutes (mostly to bark at squirrels and get me in trouble with the neighbors trying to sleep from shift work. Then he comes in running around, chasing cats, more barking and peeing on the carpet when I blink my eyes. Top that off with controlled feeding of my obese cats which means one of them is begging at the cupboard every time you turn around. And... There's Wallee swirling around like a vulture hoping they drop a piece or drop their gard so he can snatched some yummy cat food. Finally, I convince him that I am exhausted and he settles down. Low and behold, kitty (the one I refer to as the trouble of with tracey) goes running through and he jumps back up running and barking while grouchy daddy is sleeping. (grouchy is very very protective of his little shed machines so heaven forbid Wallee harass them) And so, my only rest for the day is about to happen when my little energizer yorkie goes into his crate and I my bed. |
Oh my! Hurry up and get some sleep while you can!! :) |
He is still a baby!! His battery will run down a bit when he gets older then believe it or not... You will miss this!! |
I don't know, try meditation? :D Sorry, not really helpful, I know. :) |

My boys, 3 and 4, would still happily play, run, or go walking all day long, but it isn't the same as the first year. I didn't sleep much the first year. :p I miss the puppy antics. |
you NEED an EXPEN!!! When you need a break, the cats need a break or daddy is about to break. Put him in the playpen. People did it with children for a couple of generations and it didnt warp them. Our expen stays up at all times. There are 5 dogs here and SOMEBODY is usually in timeout for my sanity. Good luck!! |
I would say an ex pen too. I have kitties. I love my shed machines lol. Also , I do not know if you have any, cat perches.( if you do disregard) They do come in handy. They could get out of the way Wallee. |
I am up and well rested and ready to take on a new day. Thanks for the tips. I do have a very large cat tree in my living room. I also have perches in two windows and a gate keeping Wallee out of that end of the house. I have been putting him back in the kitchen the past few days and I do feel a little guilty as he wimpers a tiny bit. That b said, when he comes out he is nice and calm for a bit. Guess I will just keep putting him in there when I need a break. |
It also gives him some down time too. Sometimes they even get overstimulated |
LOL oh boy do I remember those days... Well actually to be truthful, I am still living them sometimes and Jackson is 4. He can be VERY annoying when under exercised however he has developed a nice off switch... it is different than when he was under 1. I remember I used to feel like I did stuff with him all day long, exercised him a lot, etc, and he'd still be crazy, wouldn't sleep, etc. He went through a phase of not sleeping too and would just stare at the door all night to get to my dads cats. Ugh... He can still be somewhat hyper active, but it's a different way. And even tho a 3 mile walk doesn't really "DO" much for him (he could probably do another 4-5 after that, lol), it satisfies him enough/settles him. |
Oh my I feel your pain dealing with multiple animals sure can be a challenge. and I am sure with that cute face Wallee is hard to resist. Unfortunately for some when they sequester the dog they start to bark, lucky for you he only whimpers. Lola is two and has not slowed down a bit, she follows me everywhere dropping her toy and then running backward waiting for me to throw it to her just like a wide receiver waiting for a for a pass. I feel bad when I don't throw it since it makes her so happy, so all my chores takes twice as long. Sometimes I will lock her out of a room I am vacuuming in, however my bedroom door is glass so I can see her sitting there looking in with her toy and this hurt face, then my heart melts and it's back to throwing the toy. |
