Did you know that if your little "MIX BREED"...is the product of two AKC registered parents you can register it with the AKC mix breeds program and your little mix breed will get a certificate and an AKC number? we had a discussion at my local breeding club today, and when I got home I asked in other breeding groups and YES, you can't show the little mix one but it can participate in special events sponsored by the AKC and MOST important your mix baby will get the certificate with an AKC number.. so much for the AKC pure breed only status... so now we can have AKC registered mix puppies... and they are pushing it in the clubs at least here in my area.. So I guess the "MUTT" designation is NO MORE.. since now AKC is promoting the mix breeds too.. so much for that .... oh, and they have a Therapy Dog training specially for the mix breeds.. I know, I could not believe my ears the way the woman was talking about it, like oh this is the best thing it has happen in the AKC since slice bread... anyways, I told my hubby since his little MUTT was an accident with my Harry and my son's Jack russell, he is a silkyjack, and his was very happy, we are going to go register him and put him thru the therapy dog training since he is a wonderful dog.. but I could not believe my ears when the woman was introduced as the AKC mix breed liason..LOL hugs, |
Carmen so glad to see you came back and that its with such good news! Wow this is great and opens new doors for so many people to get involved in more activities with their pets! I never knew that mutts couldn't participate in other events...wow, talk about being behind the times. I just thought the show world was exclusive to purebreds...didn't know it pertained to everything...see I keep learning things here everyday! Thanks for sharing! |
I know, how cool is that, and this events are all AKC sponsored, which is GREAT, I asked a lot of questions and the lady was very nice, I learned that if I cross breed my silky female with my yorkie male, I can register the litter but at the same time it will not show in my purebreeds pedigree. Also that cross breeding is no longer a BAD word in the AKC, I am not sure how I am treating this, I am going to do a canine genetics seminar soon and I have SO many questions, NEW challenges and oportunities.. hugs, |

Believe me "THEY" are promoting it, it they did not want to do it and is not for AKC paperless or rescue pure breeds is for the MIX breeds.. the lady was VERY clear, NO they can't do conformation but they can do everything else.. and they are issuing AKC certificates with an AKC number, I never saw so many NEW breeders in our meeting.. the woman said it started on 2010 and it was not that many, so they are visiting the clubs and promoting it.. HMMM... I wonder how much MONEY is this little new venue is going to give them.. you know that is ALL about the MONEY.. Clubs may now apply to accept mixed-breed dog entries at their Agility, AKC Rally® and Obedience trials! |

Now this is what caught my attention and what I am going for with hubby's Little Silky Jack.. Enrollment in AKC Canine Partners Program – used by mixed breed dogs. A special Canine Partners enrollment form is available for mixed breed Therapy Dogs — AKC Therapy Dog Enrollment Application. This form must be submitted along with the Therapy Dog title application form. |
If anyone else is interested here's the info.. How to Earn the Title: Qualifications To earn the AKC Therapy Dog title, you and your dog must meet the following criteria: Certified/registered by an AKC recognized therapy dog organization. Perform a minimum of 50 visits. The dog must be registered or listed with AKC. All dogs are eligible to earn the AKC Therapy Dog title, including purebreds and mixed breeds. To earn the AKC Therapy Dog title, dogs must be registered or listed with AKC and have a number in order to earn a title. This includes any one of these three options: AKC registration number – used by purebred dogs. Enrolled in AKC's PAL Program. PAL is Purebred Alternative Listing. PAL (formerly called ILP) is a program that allows unregistered dogs of registerable breeds to compete in AKC Performance and Companion Events. PAL dogs include the many wonderful purebred dogs who may have come from shelters or rescue without AKC registration. Enrollment in AKC Canine Partners Program – used by mixed breed dogs. A special Canine Partners enrollment form is available for mixed breed Therapy Dogs — AKC Therapy Dog Enrollment Application. Glad you came back, Carmen. I didn't know this was new, thought they had been doing this a awile. If this is new, wonder what I am thinking of that mixed breeds could do with AKC for a while now? |
the woman said it started on 2010, but just NOW are they promoting it in the clubs... I had heard people talking about the PAL program but it was only for purebreeds the mixbreeds are being promoted now in the clubs. hugs, |

I only go to the site when i have to register a litter and relay on my club for news, so I might had missed the whole thing, I found about this because this lady came to our meeting..LOL, last time I was there was when the whole Blue Merle scandal was being discussed in the forums..LOL hugs, |
