We have about 15 pee pads. I have them out in 4 different locations. I am not lazy :D but my girls like to have options.

We have a lot of washable pads...20, but I have 4 Yorkies. We live in a condo w/no yard, so we have designated potty areas in 2 bathrooms (1 upstairs & 1 downstairs). I clean their potty area 3 x's a day & wash 4-6 pads w/x-tra rinse cycle every other day. I add some ACV to the wash to disinfect. They still prefer to go outside, so I try to take them out twice a day if I'm home. I am def not lazy when it comes to taking care of my dogs.:p

Brody is 4 months, we have had him for 3 weeks. He has had only a few accidents. He started out well with the disposable pads but began to tear them up. Switched to the non-scented thinking this was why he was tearing them but not so. :confused:
He spends his time when we are at work in a decent sized room with his crate bed and pad in a tray. Our ultimate goal is for him to use the pad when we are not here and ring the bell on the door for the porch when we are here.
Question:
Is this a realistic goal?
If we switch to the real pads to use in the tray will he realize that a pad is different than other cloth like carpet and furniture?
Do some of you use the washable pads as a permanent bathroom plan for your pups? Brody will be under 5 lbs.

There is a spray for washable pads that scents them I've heard others here have sucess with it.

Duct tape around the edges of disposabke pads has also worked for some.

The bell is incredible manu people here and that I know personally have great sucess with it-my Princess ate all the bells while my boys did good ringing it...so it didn't work oit here.

The idea of a potty pad is like anything else- a designated potty spot-mine have a little fenced area in the yard they use.

Consistancy makes all the difference.

Potty pads are super useful for ouppies, dogs who are left home while people are out like working or for weather issues.

Personally I live in a mild climate year round so mine go outdoors but Scoobers was litter trained to go in a litter box when we first got him due to circumstances (pup mill puppy scared of grass, we were upstairs in an apartment 4 days a week etc)agression later I just moved the litter box to the backyard and he began to go there.

While consistancy needs to be established changes can happen in phases also.

To answer your last question, my dogs use the pads as a permanent bathroom plan. I take them for walks, but they won't go to the bathroom outside. They all run to one of the pee pads as soon as we get home :confused:
