Just saw this on the news and I know this is the wrong forum, but more people see stuff here!! remove it from your computer!!

This may just be a late warning to what was released late last August. This article does not state which Java version is vulnerable, but there was a fix for the August vulnerability. However, it happens a lot that 'old news' gets dredged up and re-circulated. I'd recommend checking into it more to determine if you need to disable Java...or need Java so things you need will run. Here is an article from last August:

I have always considered Java a terrible risk and refuse to have it on my Windows laptop. If I recall correctly, Apple doesn't ship its computers with Java installed anymore.

A Java hole let the trojan in that killed one of my PCs.

A dwindling number of programs still require Java. Doesn't YT chat require it?

It was also on the National morning news. I don't remember which network but was ABC NBC OR CBS. That is what got me researching.

YT chat does require Java..not sure if you can get on any other way.

:) I understand completely. Actually, I work in IT for ... ummm ... 'alotta years' now...but, I cannot count the number of times I have seen old 'warnings' come around, often due to a chain email someone received, and hit news, TV, radio, etc. broadcasts 'cuz ... ummm ... nobody at the station did their homework. :p:D

Please forgive me...I don't get hyped up until I 'see the whites of their eyes' anymore...;)...and I know how stuff like that gets my non-PC-tech friends worrying, so was just saying how much that warning looks like the August one.

Thank you for posting it so others can check on their Java and whatever might be wrong this time. :)

I work in the banking industry and our IT expert called the company who does all of our processing. They said that we are safe but we have to be very careful to only go to web pages we know are safe and to delete any emails from unknown sources.
Our security is very high due to regulations for internet banking and most spam and suspicious emails are caught before they actually hit our individual email accounts.
Scary world we live in today!!

Just saw this on my 6pm Detroit news channel, too! They said, disable it immediately.

Unless it's hiding, I don't have it on my desktop, laptop or ipad...does that seem right?

Go on your browser Tools and look on dropdown menu for Manage Add-ons and on that dropdown menu look under Tookbars and Extentions to see if Java is enabled and just click to disable it. If it isn't listed there, you might not have it, though most computers do come with a version of it I think.

I completely uninstalled java on my laptop. What is effect is Not having Java going to do? I know lots of web applications use it.

You could look on the Uninstall Programs section of the Control Panel and it will show it if you have it on your computer at all. All your Java's and Java Updates will be listed there. I have Java 6's and then 7 Update 9 that I got I think in June 2012 but it is disabled until there is a fix or patch or something or I know more if all versions are affected. When Homeland Security says it's dangerous, I'm a believer!

I did a complete uninstall from my control panel. I saw the Homeland Security warning too and got that sucker Java off my laptop.

I use FireFox as my web browser. They have advised against using Java for a long time. Don't know all the technical issues. I just prefer FireFox because it is much faster and has options that I prefer over Internet Explorer so I have tried to avoid Java.
