Protecting pup in the snow? The weather forecasters here in England are predicting snow and I was wondering what we need to do to protect tiny little J? He has been able to go out for walks for a week now and is thriving and enjoying getting out and about to explore the world. Here in the UK, the pavements aren't cleared of snow - we're pretty ill prepared for it despite it being more common in recent years. Anyway, if the snow does come should I still continue to take him out? He is very small and gets cold so easily, so I really worry. I haven't been able to find ANY clothes small enough to keep him warm, they're all far too big and he can wriggle out of them in less than 10 seconds. Any snow pup tips? |
1 Attachment(s) How old is he and how big is he? ZoE was born in the winter, so she was just a lil thing during her first snow fall. I still took her outside to experience it, but just for a few minutes at a time. I made her a lil jumper/sweater out of the sleave of one of my old jumpers...then added a ruffle at the bottom so it looked cuter. You can also use a sock that you cut legs holes in to make cheap & quick clothing. Here's a pic of ZoE in her outfit made from a jumper sleeve. |

He is 14 weeks and 1.5kg (which I think is 3lb 4oz). Great ideas, I will hunt through a bag of clothes I was going to donate to charity and see if I have anything soft enough for him. I have zero sewing skills during the winter because my fingers seaze up but if it is just a matter of chopping something, then I'll be fine. Thank you!:D:D |
That is SO cute I LOVE that picture Quote:

:D Maybe the snow won't happen....they were wrong last time?!!? :D There's a couple of websites I wonder if you've had a look at:- www.puchipetwear.com and www.petlondon.net Some very scrummy, tiny things on both. Thinking about their little paws - Harry won't wear boots (or anything at all for that matter!) so I buy Mushers Secret from Amazon. It's a kind of wax that you rub onto their paws...it dries to a clear nothingness so won't ruin your carpets, but protects them from salt as well as ice + snow. Good luck! Sally + Harry x |
Jackson is a snow FREAK - he loves the snow! I just put a jacket on him to keep him warm! |
Blazer LOVES the snow! I have a hard time getting him to come in the house even on the really cold windy days because he just enjoys being outside so much! My biggest thing with my dogs in the snow is to make sure that the hair on their feet isn't too long and that there isn't any hair longer than the pads of their feet AND when I bring them in I make sure to wipe their feet off really well. I think that it is important to get your dog used to all types of weather but obviously keep a watchful eye on them for when they've had enough. =) |
