Grass chewing/eating. skinny my yorkshire loves to eat grass and i read some website that is is ok for them to do so. but it seems that he pukes once a week. should i stop him as i suspect its from grass eating. He is also super active and never gain on weight. i have never seen him walk, its either, run, run real fast and run super fast regardless of distance... fed him many food still not gaining weigh, any solutions? |
I would take him to your vet. Ask them if he weighs appropriately for his size. I once fostered a Yorkshire terrier who I thought was way to skinny ... but upon examination from the vet found she was the perfect weight for her size. She was a six pound Yorkie .. I'm used to 12.5 Yorkies so to me she seemed way to tiny, but she was just petite (took me awhile to get used to LOL) If your vet feels your Yorkie is to skinny ... perhaps allow your Yorkshire terrier to free range for awhile or feed more during feeding times and feed more than once a day? My Yorkies always have food available, but are very active.... What are you feeding your Yorkie? If you aren't already, perhaps switching to a higher quality of food? I don't know if that could be an issue, but it couldn't hurt to try. Your Yorkie might be throwing up from the grass or it could be the type of food he eating (maybe he is allergic or something). My Yorkies eat grass, but never throw up from it (though my old cat did). Maybe there is an underlining medical issue that is causing your Yorkie to vomit. A visit to the vet could rule that out. I'm no expert, but that is just what I would try. I'm sure there are other members of this website that will have excellent advice for you! |
My Huey used to vomit a couple of times a month for no known reason and really wasnt enthused about mealtime. When I read about the recalls of food from China and Purina, I changed him from Purina One to blue buffalo and threw away the chicken jerky from China. Now he has not vomited once in the last month and loves mealtimes. Maybe it is just the food? |
I know when Brandi eats grass it's because she has an upset tummy and grass helps to induce vomiting. So it could be the grass that's causing the vomiting or he could have an upset tummy and is eating the grass to induce vomiting Sort of like what came first the chicken or the egg? |
My one year old Max was a grass eater, wall licker, chair chewer, etc., from the moment we brought him home ... Not having Yorkies previously I assumed he was just being a puppy. He never ate a lot, but the Vet said his weight was good. Turns out he has food allergies! Now he is on vegetarian and hypoallergenic food, as well as treats, etc., he finally has an appetite and has stopped eating the furniture! |
