My Yorkie had 5 puppies, going crazy! My Yorkie got pregnant under my brothers care. (Yes I should of had her spayed) but since she only plays with female dogs it didn't cross my mind. Now I have 5 puppies from her. They're growing great gaining weight everyday some more than others then the others more than some. Vet told me to supplement some with milk since she's 5 pound which I do, they only take a couple sips then stop and sleep. As soon as i put them down they go straight to momma to nurse, most puppies hate the bottle and refuse to take it but they are still gaining weight. I give mom supplement and nutrition also puppy can and hard SCIENCE DIET. I didn't know she was supposed to eat puppy food while pregnant and found out literally the day before she gave birth and now she's skin and bones which is why I feed her canned and solids as well. I can use all they advice I can get. Do anyone have a small yorkie that gave birth to 4 or more pups and made it by just nursing? How should I put weight back on her? How much weight should a puppy gain? I have a three month old so I'm running off 3 hours of sleep and 4 cups of coffee. Help please I'm trying to save her and her babies. |
WOW! WELCOME TO YT:D I know nothing about breeding and whelping so can't help there, but will bump this up so some one more knowledge can help you. Sound like your mama dog needs some help. There are some very experienced folks here that I am sure can help you. Would love pics! |
Aww thank you! |
oh no it sounds like you have your hands full!!! Did you post in the breeder section? Anyway... welcome to YT! I know you will love it here and I hope you get the answers you need. I hope you can help your little mommy and the pups. |
Congrats on your litter, now, your gal should be eating A LOT, first for breakfast she should be having a scrambled egg with a tablespoon of cottage cheese, for lunch she should be having her kibble mixed with some boiled liver and liver broth, for snack she should be having some whelping pudding, for dinner she should be having more kibble with some wet puppy can food and before bed she should have kibble with puppy food or whelping pudding. and fresh water available all the time, and have a tube of calcium closer in case her calcium goes down, I use Oralcal plus from revival animal. please keep a close eye on her she is tiny for a big litter.. hugs, |
I hope some breeders can offer some advice here. You might want to post this in the breeding section also for advice on suppliments, general feeding, puppy whelping stages and help in how to evaluate finding appropriate homes for all the pups. |

Feed your momma dog .... Good quality food and supplement her with dog vitamins ... Do not feed strait can food it has the tendency to develop lose stool.... As for the pups try to bottle feed as best u can...but let therm nurse too..couple of feedings with the bottle, will help the mom...I hope you will have your baby spayed as soon her conditions allowed it, and have the new puppy owners, sign a contract to do so too..there are to many accidental breedings out there..and the dogs/ puppies are paying the price...good luck to you and the mom with pups... |

Make sure you keep the pups with mom until 12 weeks and that after that you get her spayed. |
