My name is Julieta and I am from Missouri.
Peaches was rescued in Novemebr from a puppy mill, she has about 6-8 years old and we brought her home 2 days ago. She is beautiful and scared of everyone and everything. I want to do my best and give her lots of love. She has no teeth and does not know how to play or walk outside. I never had a yorkie and any help is very welcome. :aimeeyork

Julieta, welcome to YorkieTalk. What an Angel in disguise you were for your little one. No telling what the poor little dear endured while in her puppy mill hell. My best suggestion would be to go slow, give her plenty of love, good food, and kindness. In time she will learn to trust and love. Please post pics of your little one. Have you settled on a name yet?

Oh, welcome to you and Juliet and thank you so for rescuing her. Bless her little heart. Just give her space and time to settle in and get to know your place and you. Let her come to you and make the advances and most of all, and I know this will be hard, be matter of fact in your dealings with her. Being sorry for her and petting her when she's very scared won't help her but just being there for her to distract her a bit with a bit of a treat or tossing a ball will work help redirect her energy toward the new thing instead of her fear of what's going to happen.

She sounds like nobody took a lot of care with her little teeth to brush them and such so she probably lived with someone who wasn't too dog- or Yorkie-savvy, as Yorkies often have very poor dentition, get gum disease and caries so easy. They also can have quite a few stomach problems and rich, greasy foods can really cause them issues if they are one of those types. For 5 years Tibbe wasn't but now he does have an iffy tummy and has to eat prescription food.

Again, thank you for helping this little lady and I know one day soon she will grow into your very best friend.

Hello and welcome to YT. I just want to hug you for saving Peaches. It is a wonderful thing you did. Bless her little heart. She probably was in a kennel reproducing. She will take a little time to warm up and understand that she has a better life. One thing that she might like is a kong they have a senior version. You can put a little peanut butter in it. The smell will help respond to it. I would love to see pics

Hello and welcome to YorkieTalk. Thank you for rescuing your Yorkie. The first thing to keep in mind is this poor little thing has obviously been mistreated. Therefore she will be very uncomfortable with you for some time. Remember to take it day at a time and show her the love and attention she deserves. You will be rewarded in the long run with a loving and trusted friend. It may take you 6 months to a year for her to feel at home and not threatened, so patience is a virtue.

Congrats on your new addition of Peaches! Bless you for taking her in, you have a long, hard, but wonderful journey ahead of you. Lots of time, love, and patience will help you succeed with this girl. I'm glad you found YT, there are plenty of members here who have been where you are now and they'll be great help. =D

Welcome to YT, Julieta and Peaches. Bless you for rescuing this girl. You are such a wonderful person!!

I don't have experience with this but I would just take it slow and give her space when she needs it and love always. Find her some food that she can eat with no teeth. When picking her up, I would suggest getting down on the floor with her first instead of bending over to pick her up (that scares even my dog so it would probably scare a dog who has been thru what Peaches has).

Thank you guys !!!! I'm far of being an angel!!!! This dog is teaching me another dimension of love...I never heard about those "mills" and it brings me to tears every time I see her scared and so submissive. Of course I want her "educated" and potty trained but for now, I will just be happy if she shows me any sign of pleasure and let me and Keith, my husband, to love her. I'm a Physical therapist, working 8-10 hours/day and Keith works just 8 and always gets home before me. For now she is in a crate at night and when we are not at home but a training crate scars me to death (I need training too ). She has been using the wee pad and I out her bed outside of the crate so she won't sleep on the poop as she was used to. That's why I think a small crate won't be the best option for now....she is too scared and I hope I get her used to the clean bed first, then she will respond better not wanting to be on the soiled floor. How can I let her confined when she just got freedom? I need help, advises, lessons, you name it....if there's anyone from Kansas City area I can meet, I'll appreciate it from my heart. I want her to be educated and potty trained but for now I just want her to feel that she cA be happy, wiggle her lil tail and not to be scared when we pet her. I started reading all on potty training and how can I confine a dog that has been amused and confined all her life? So I decided to use the crate with wee pad and I put her bed by the crate door, outside, so I can give her something good hoping when the crate training comes, she will miss her nice bed and will not want to sleep on the dirty ground as she was raised. I need advises, help, lessons, you name it and if there's someone from Kansas City area, I can meet and appreciate it. I will look you up on facebook in a bit. If you don't want to put her in a crate for training, perhaps a smaller xpen with room for a bed, food, water, toys, and a spot for a pee pad. Just a thought.
