Water in ears Hi! I'm new to this site and by reading the forums, it is a blessing!! I was wondering how you all keep water out of your babies ears when bathing. I read about cotton balls but don't they get wet also? I try to fold Sophie's ears down when spraying her but I'm not sure if they stay dry. |
Welcome. I've not had issue with water in Bailey's ears when bathing. I'm sure others will be along shortly to address your question. |
When I bathe Mandie's top of her head, I use a cup for the water (not the sprayer). This way I can control where the water goes for the most part. I do bend her ears down and hold them to her head while I pour the water over (I also cup my hand around her head to shield her eyes so with the my fingers I hold her ears down. Water will sneak in there though. The first thing I do after I towel dry her is use my hair dryer to blow the insides of her ears. After I do that, then I brush and blow dry her. |
I try to avoid it as two if nine beed ear plucking, we just dry thoroughly and I use the blower in their ears. I'm ordering the Wax Vac from Tv you get 2 for $10...one for the fam one for the dogs...hoping it will be the solution. |
I use cotton balls and make them smaller to fit. if they shake though they come out but so far its the best solution ive found...other than when rinsing i will pull ears completely forward so i can rinse the back of the head while holding ears in one hand and rinsing other. |
I just realized I forgot to say Welcome to YT!! :) When you get a chance, we would love to see some pics of your baby. We love pics! And, ask any questions you have - that's what we are here for. |
Besides just doing your best you need to be using an ear cleaner with a drying agent in it after baths or any water play and that will dry the ears out of any water that got in them and keep them from getting ear infections. I get Epi-otic from my vet and it works great. Callie sent the cotton balls flying so we don't do that any more lol |

Never had any issues. He also swims all summer long, never did anything special. |
During Tatiana's bath, I cup water with my hand, and gently pour down her head (when I rinse her head). This way, I can control the flow of water that goes down her face. This isn't to protect her ears as much as her nose, as she can snort water and cough. As far as her ears, I always clean her ears with Zymox AFTER her bath. It prevents ear infections and ear wax build-up. |
Never had an issue with it but i do fold their ears down when using the sprayer and tip their heads back. I too always swab them out with cleaner when I am finished and blow dry them. Then when they are done they finish them up drying them on the carpet, chairs, sofa, etc lol. forget the topknots until this ritual is over lol. |
