YorkieTalk Needs a New Server!
 

It's been a few years since we've upgraded our server, but the reason YorkieTalk has been having some issues the past few days is we've outgrown our current server again!

With over 100,000 members, 4 million posts, over 370,000 photos, the server has to handle a lot in order to make YorkieTalk work.

We are accepting donations for our new server, or if you just want to donate to YorkieTalk.

To send a donation or payment via credit card, we can only take that through Paypal. You can sign up for a free Paypal account at www.paypal.com

Then click on the Send Money tab after you have logged into your Paypal account and send money to donations@yorkietalk.com to make your donation. Please remember to let us know via PM or in the Paypal remarks what your YorkieTalk username is. We will process your payment within 48 hours, usually sooner.

The new server will be approximately $3000 for what we anticipate will hold us for the next two years. YorkieTalk overall will be a lot faster and easier to use as well. We've already gone through four server upgrades, we're just amazed that we continue to grow so fast. We thank you for that!

This is where we are asking you for help. Donations will help us greatly. If you feel YorkieTalk is a useful resource and can spare a few bucks, we would appreciate it greatly. You can send donations via Paypal to donations@yorkietalk.com or you can PM us for the mailing address to send a check or money order. The ads and donations we currently receive would not be enough to handle the bandwidth costs and server costs, too.

We'd also like to sincerely thank each and every person who has donated to YorkieTalk in the past, as you are the reason that YT is alive. It would be impossible to pay for costs for a community this large without your help!

If we don't get a new server, we may have to limit certain functions on YorkieTalk, such as search, picture attachments, and the Photo Gallery. We've had to remove a few boxes from the main YT page because of this server issue. Any restrictions would be a last resort, and we hope we don't have to do that, but we may have to to be able to serve all Yorkie owners without the server crashing.

Your contributions have helped thousands and thousands of Yorkie owners since 2004 (almost nine years now), and we hope we can continue to be able to be your Yorkshire Terrier community. Thank you for reading this.

when you get a new server will it enable us to post larger pictures. Currently I have never taken a photo, even on my old cell that was small enough to post here without labor intensive resizing. I frequent other forums on unrelated topics but are similar in format and do not have to resize my photos before posting them. Having to resize each photo keeps me from posting pictures. I will be happy to donate towards the server if it has a feature that does not require resizing photos.

As much as this place has helped each and every one of us and how fast we all realized we were lost without it the past 2 days....I say it should be an easy decision for us all to chip in. I know some of us are strapped for cash especially right after the holidays, but if we all just donate a little, that will add up to a lot :)

I don't care if YT changes one single thing...I would not want it to be gone....I can't imagine all the benefits we would be missing...instant help, day or night....shoulders to cry on....recipe in a pinch...a laugh....a good debate...the wonderful products we can buy or just the "company" of others that mean so much to me at this point.....I will be sending my donation in this evening....

You could set you camera to take a smaller picture, Yorkietalk will take a picture up to 200 kb's and that can be as big as 10 inches across. Another options is to download the photobucket application and upload the pictures to photobucket, it's really easy and then you can just do a direct link from photobucket and the photo will show up as a photo here not a link.

Do we know how much a new server costs? how do we go about getting/finding a new one one?
