Find some chicken baby food, the kind without onions and mix with her food. Even if she does like my little knothead and suck the baby food off then spit out the kibble:rolleyes:, at least she's getting some protein. And like everyone else has said, get some Karo or Nutrical. Nutrical's best but Karo will do if it's all you have. Since she's so very young you might also try running the kibble through a food processor to grind it up and make a mush out of it. Messy as heck but a lot easier for her to eat. |
If you are feeding her kibble, try tossing a few pieces across the floor 1 at a time & see if she goes after it that way. I have had great success with the toss game with the babies. Yorkies were bred to be mousers & the chase & catch often encourages them to eat. |
Joel was so so so so bad about eating when he was a baby, I have bad memories of all the work I did to get him to eat haha. I got so tired of it I would just grind his food into powder, pinch some up and force it in his mouth, lol. When it's powdery he can't spit it and had to swallow it. Worked like a charm:D He actualy started eating because he knew I was going to keep doing it. |
Just wondering how Coco is today :) Is she doing better? |
Hi all...still a struggle with coco. I tried the game this morning where I toss the little bits of kibble out like a game and she is supposed to run after them and chomped them up... So I tossed, and she literally payed down and watched. Nothing. So I ended up grinding up the dry food mixing with water and some nutristat paste, put the mix into a syringe and had to hold her down and force feed her. It was a huge battle and she hates it...I think I made about 30 cc's and overall she probably swallowed about 10. I have at this point followed that up by a teaspoon of honey which she licks up just fine. I am so deflated with this at this point I don't know what to do. |

Have you been to the vet? Or at least talked to them? Its very important that you do. They have to eat something. SOunds to me like she is already lethargic, and weak. I hope you talk to a vet asap |
Have you checked to see if all her teeth are through? Sometimes they are not really fully weaned when they leave the mom that soon. But since she did eat well for a couple of days and then stopped it is concerning. Is there anyway she could have been exposed to an area where other dogs have been? There is a particular parasite that can cause a puppy to lose all appetite. Maybe try getting some Puppy Replacement Milk at your vet's or local pet store and mix it with your ground dog food. It may taste better to her than the food with water on it. Don't put regular cow's milk in the food through. Goats milk is good, too. |
Vet check will be needed. Maybe they have a medicine that will help her. Mine did the same thing though. Ate till she was home a few days, we had the same food as the breeder and she just stopped wanting to eat it. Like I said, it took MANY samples of different foods to find a few she liked... and a few months with force feeding, but she now eats on her own pretty well. Don't get frustrated, stay as positive as you can. I remember cussing at her because she was fighting me, but saying it in a pleasant upbeat tone- lol- SHE MADE ME CRAZY!!! It was worth the effort though :) |
