Top Knot ? Should I remover her pony tail at night every night to give her a break or is it OK to leave it in? |
I leave Mandie's in sometimes, but it's halfway out in the morning so I probably shouldn't. I'm curious to see what others say on this, too. |
I use terrycloth scrunchies for Jada and Bogie's topknots and I don't put them in tight. I take them down daily to brush them and re braid their braids. I leave them in at night and always have. It has never been an issue. If I used bands I would take them down at night. |
I leave Katie's topknot in, but it's not pulled tight. Otherwise her hair would be in her eyes. I redo it every morning, but she has one at all times. |
My two that have Top Knots I leave them in at all times. I do redo them at least 2 times a day. I also use the scrunchies. |
I leave my girls in at night as well, but I was curious as to what others did...thank you for the reply ladies. :) |
I leave in But take the bow off. When she was really little I was afraid she would get it out and eat one! |
I left Tamekas in all night, she was so used to having a pony tail in that most of the time it didn't bother her. Sometimes she would rub her head and I would take it out to let her itch and then put it back. |
My Sadie has hers in at all times I was wondering the same thing if I should keep it in or not at night I use orthodontist elastics as anything else just falls out |
Lexie has hers in all the time & it's never been a problem. I just use the fabric bands only, no latex or rubber bands. |
Gracie's topknot is too long to leave loose at night. When I tried it she had hair in her face and mouth in the morning. I also use the little scrunchie things that I bought at K-Mart at night. I think they are a little less hard on the hair. You do have to replace them often because they stretch out easily. They are pretty cheap to buy though. |
Trixie's is not that long but long enough that she can't see well without it being up, I just wondered if she would end up with a headache like I get when I have my hair up for too long. |
It is really important to make sure whatever kind of band you use is not causing pulling on the hair any where on the head. You can loosen any pulling of the hair by pulling up on the band with one of the teeth of your comb after the band is in place. Really the dog should not even be aware that there is anything on the head. It could give them a lot of discomfort if the band is tight or pulling the hair at all. I always check by looking and feeling the hair on the head to make sure there is no tightness at all. |

I always take Zoe's hair down at night. I wait until she lays down to sleep and then just pull it out. I know when I wear my hair in a ponytail all day it feels good to take it out at night so I figure she likes the break too. She sleeps all night and doesn't get up so I've decided it doesn't matter if its in her eyes. Of course when she gets up in the morning the first thing we do is "fix her hair". |
I take Bella's out every night. I like to give her a break from it for a little bit. |

Ditto...:D The topknots are not tight...maybe even a little too loose at times. Sometimes, they are scrunchie-less and sheep-doggish by morning...:p...but it has never been an issue. Brody refers to the scrunchies as "chew toys" to be held firmly in Yorkie front teeth so Mommy can see and get a case of 'the gimmies' and then the game of "keep away" can properly begin. When Mommy loses interest, the scrunchie is surrendered...errr...that means Mommy snatches it when Brody is not looking. :D |
Oh, yeah. If a topknot is on day and night it needs to be changed at least once if not twice a day. I use the latex free grooming bands that are easier on the hair but the hair will still get stressed if the band is left in too long. Gracie has a busy day playing with cats and getting into all kinds of activities so the hair has plenty of opportunity to get a work out. Many times she sleeps under the blanket at night so she needs her own hair dresser to follow her around. I have though about cutting it but have not figured out a way to style her head hair that will go with the rest of her long body hair. |
I use orthodontist elastics as they are the only thing that will hold Crimson's thin hair. I cut them out at night. |
I have tried ones you get at dollar tree for human hair they were too big for Sadie's silky hair also tried the ones made from string kinda like a scrunchie. Finally I realized my youngest daughter has braces and we have a ton of elastics for her . I started using them today and they are perfect I did use ones for dogs they were too thick it was either too loose or too tight but now I'm using my daughters elastics but rest assured she won't miss them I found 20 small bags full lol |
The bands made for braces are much like the latex free grooming b bands that I buy. Much easier on the hair than the regular rubber ones. |
I always take Bella's out, fluff up and scratch her head and she loves it...it is just our thing to do when getting ready for bed. |
