Thanks Harrrysmum, I will do that  |
My Fletcher is silver when he's shaved, but looks blacker when it grows back in longer. He's always been that way. Your baby is adorable by the way! |
Columbo occasionally gets spots like that, although never that large. He is silver like Ozi. When he was younger, he had a vaccine shot in his hip and it developed a bump at the site. He had some hair loss there. It scared me, so I had the vet biopsy it and it was fine. The bump went away and some of the hair came back, but darker. It eventually lightened up to match the rest. Also, occasionally he gets a little "zit" at a hair folicle here and there. My husband says I must be part monkey, because I can never leave them alone. I'm always picking at him and pop the little pus pocket out. (I know, ewww) He's had a couple that were bigger and were irritated after I got done with them. The hair on those (just a little 1/8" spot) have grown in darker, and again, lightened back up. Last year, he had knee surgery on both knees and the hair around the scars came back darker. From past experience, I know it will lighten up. So, I feel like Ozi's darker hair is due to some skin or hair folicle irritation, maybe even a vaccine reaction. I feel pretty sure it will change color back to match the rest, although it may take several months to due that, just like a puppy. |
I tried to upload pics of Avery so you could see his black spots on his back and how they were growing out, but I'm not very good with that kind of stuff and it keeps telling me I have to "manually" resize the pics and I don't know how to do that. :( Sorry. He was matted and shaved twice before we got him. Since then he has been well groomed and the black spots are growing out with dark silver underneath, so now there are long black "tips" down coming down his back and sides as they grow =/ Who knows what they will look like eventually. He is 15 months old right now. I'm letting his hair grow long just to see what happens. If I can figure out the picture thing, I'll try to post some to show you better. |

Yes I have seen that before-the look-in a yorkie mix. Not to offend but is he purebred? Not sure that helps you any, but you see that is Schnorkies and mini schnauzers. My mini schnauzer was trimmed too short on her double coat and only the course hair grew back the down coat is gone so she has two yellow spots on her side-perhaps this is similar. Very interesting, hope you get a geniune answer I'm very curious to know. |
My Belle has a patch of darker, coarser hair between her shoulders and another by her hips. I'm 99% sure that its a vaccine reaction. She just turned two on Nov 1 and won't be getting any more vaccinations until her rabies is due in 3 years. The darker hair is a completely different texture than the silky hair on the rest of her body - it bothers me that something that was supposed to be beneficial to her actually caused a visible physical change. I worry about how else she may have been affected. :( |
Okay, I'm going to try this picture reposting since somebody was kind enough to give me instruction on resizing :) We'll see if it worked. well I guess it didn't work it says it still exceeds the forum's size. I resized it to 85% in Paint as instructed but???? Ughh... I strongly dislike computers  |
1 Attachment(s) okay, here we go again! LOL i resized it even smaller... OMG I did it!!! Now I hope I remember what I did |

concretegurl: I'm not 100% sure he's a full blooded yorkie, but he is AKC registered. The breeders were very disreputable and got shut down, which left a bunch of puppies without homes. I do know however, that he does NOT have a double coat. I also own a Siberian Husky, so I'm very familiar with double coats, lol. I will post some puppy pictures before he turned silver and one where he was shaved, and one where he grew out again. celstu1: Ozi is the same way, darker when he grows out, but this time, there are definite confined patches of darker fur. coolcowsmoo: Avery is adorable!!! So light colored too! I will try to take some more current pictures in the next few days. He doesn't hold still for long. Thanks everyone for the answers and support! |
2 Attachment(s) Okay, first picture is from puppy-hood, and second is after he had been shaved and it grew back |
