Puppy's weight.... I have had my little pup for a month and a half or so. He is 14 weeks old, and believe it or not ---I don't have a scale and have never known what he weighed. We went to the vet yesterday (for puppy shots) and they weighed him. He weighs 4 lbs --which I am so pleased about. I didn't want a "tiny" Yorkie, but at the same time, I was afraid this little guy might end up "huge." So - (correct me if I'm wrong) -- I think my little guy may end up to be 7 or 8 lbs. I think this would be a wonderful weight - and certainly wouldn't mind a pound or two more-or-less. He is soooo loveable, healthy, and active. I am very lucky!!! Carol Jean |

He's definitley not going to be a tiny yorkie, but his weight at maturity is anyone's guess. I placed a little guy early this year and he was over 2 1/2 lbs at 10 weeks if I am correct. He is way over 7 lbs now. Amazed me. I think the owner really had their heart set on a tiny yorkie. But since I don't breed for that I'd much rather hear that he's a bigger yorkie, than a tiny, sickly one. I tried to explain that he wasn't going to be a tiny yorkie, but I think she fell in love with him at first site regardless. It's so hard to predict. We can guess and guess but some of them will really fool us! ;) |
As I said earlier, I'm glad he's not a real tiny Yorkie. I just didn't want him to weigh 18 pounds... I'm sure the scales were right. He was weighed at the vet's office. I just thought that 4 pounds at 14 weeks was a good healthy weight. I don't know what his parents weighed. But I was told that he would weigh between 5 and 10 pounds. So, I suppose that one of them wasn't real small. Thanks for your replies. Carol Jean |
I think Trixie was about 4lbs when I got her at 14 weeks. She's 6,5lbs now at 9 months. I think her mom was 8lbs and her dad 5. So she'll be somewhere in between. As you said, it's more important that they are healthy, happy and active. |
