Brrrr. Snowy and cold and no hair Poor Wallee. Wouldn't you know it? The day the groomer cut all his beautiful hair off it snowed. I feel so guilty about him having less hair that I haven't taken him for a walk the past 2 days. I picked him up some boots again yesterday that are easier to put on but of course he doesn't like them at all. I can get him to wear his coat now but the walks take much longer as he continually stops and stares at me before we move on. Not sure if I can get him to walk in the boots at all and worry about his feet getting cold in this stuff. Any suggestions? |
It may be just finding something that he likes..... some coats restrict how they move... the leg holes just aren't made right. I have found this with several things that I have purchased. Maybe something without leg holes? (they do exist.... I have some that have a collar and go around the neck and are belted at the waist.... kinda like a horse-blanket..... (sorry if your not familiar, but that is the best way I can think of to describe it :rolleyes: ) Good Luck! |
.......... and you might consider paw wax for his feet.... it don't help with the cold, but it does protect from salt & also may help keep him from slipping, too! (I wrote some info on Paw Wax quite a long time ago.... you may be able to search the archives here and find it) |
Thanks for the response. Yes I have a coat like that as well. It is lined with almost a lamb skin and it is a soft suede. Wallee doesn't even like wearing a t shirt so I know it's all about any clothing. I can manage the walks with the coat if I stay patient. I am just not sure I will be able to convince him to go with boots on. I also have some socks I may try as he can feel his feet better. The problem with anything I have to push on like that requires my husband helping and he is not always here. |
Thanks again. I have the wax and will use that if the boots don't work out. I just worry about the cold.... Hehe.... My husband says I should keep him in a bubble. :rolleyes: |
Gracie is a heat hound. She is always trying to cuddle with someone when it is chilly (72 or under) But when it is time for a walk she is ready to go. We have over a foot of snow on the ground so we have had to shovel an area for her to walk in the yard. I walk her along our road. She doesn't seem to notice the cold at all when she is outside. I have never tried boots on her. I doubt she would go for it anyway. She is good about her coat and other warm wear. I do wrap her up in a blanket when we get inside until she is all warmed up. If Wallee is having trouble walking in his coat he may go no where in his boots. As long as you keep him out of the salt he should be OK in his bare feet. |
Looks like the boots are a no go as they twist and fall off. What did work though was the socks I bought a while back so now I want to try the pawz. |

poor Wallee! Raelle hates the cold, but loves to run around in the snow....she will wait for me to put her coat on...Jersey let me put on her coat, but the time she came back in, the coat was halfway off..:rolleyes: No idea how she managed that! She too loves the snow...have to try an find something that will keep their feet warm and dry. The paws look to me to be hard to get on...may check them out though... |

Cold Night Cure I was emailing a friend of mine, who loves in the northeast, and of course we mentioned our Dogs. He has a great idea... Most of us have those Outdoor/Sporting Goods Stores near us, and frequently they offer some older stock, and a very reduced price. He had bought (on sale for about $5) a Sleeping Blanket for a Child/Junior. The materials used, of course are those which are supportive to body heat, and after placing that small blanket into a oval bed, says his two Chihuahuas love it. I know our Yorkies are a bit more tolerant of cool weather than his little Tacos, but, some of you may be able to arrange this extra warm bedding for your guys benefit. |
