Well you did not do research on the right sites I'm afraid any site that knows the Yorkshire Terrier knows it is VERY important for them to stay with there mom until 12 because of things they need to learn. I would suggest checking out the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America they put lots of research into make sure what is done is right for our breed. Big dogs and little dogs are very different. Also there is lots of false stuff on the internet so just because you researched it on the internet does not mean that is what is best.

Just so you know a good breeder won't let you have a dog before 12 weeks. And if the breeder doesn't give you a written contract saying they will take the dog back ..usually with a timeline. They don't have to. Dogs develop of lot of the social skills from 10 -12 weeks this is why they recommend the pups to stay that long. Now I'm not saying the person you bought the dog doesn't mean well. I'm just reminding you just because you read it on the internet it means it's okay. Hope you enjoy your pup and it remains happy and healthy.

I understand stuff I found on internet is not golden. It just helps to ease the mind a little bit when I come across different sources and pet owners.

I understand the situation for my pup right now is not ideal.

There is no sibling surround the pup I am picking up so I am worried the pup will be lonely by himself there during the extra 4 weeks. I am hoping by spending more time with the pup myself and giving him all the love in the world can make up for the time he doesn't get to spend with his mom. :(

When the pups old enough = shots ect. Puppy kindergarten is a good place to develop social skill..if there a small group near you. or if you have friends with pups of go to a seattle meetup witch they have often in Seattle. A well socialized dog and trained won't develop annoying barking habits... like separation anxiety. Well trained dogs are happy and we are happier also. IME. Also find a small dog Vet. That helps also. IME not Vets are all the same. Good luck with your puppy...Post pics also :):thumbup:....Oh I seen Washington and assumed Seattle????? Bit Seattle and Eastside have the most dog meetups. I never go. I live South outa Seattle area . But look like fun

Well you will not be able to give it what its mother can because it is not just love she actually teaches the pup. Another concern is as much as this breeder seems good its not the only reason people do not keep pups as long as they should is generally because of the money and that means to save money I am sure they cut other corners and you and your pup could very much pay for that.

I didn't read all the replies, but here's my two cents:

I bought an x-pen for Catherine to help with the potty training - no dice, she just climbed out of it. We tried for a long time with the stupid pen and she kept climbing out. It was too dangerous to keep her in it because she'd try and try until she got out. Fortunately she never hurt herself...

I tried my best to train her other ways, like walking on a schedule, etc, but it didn't work, she would still sneak around and pee - mostly in my daughter's room.

Finally bought a crate (I got the medium size so she can have her toys and food in there with her bed). It has works like a charm! No accidents since I got it. She now knows the only place to go potty is outside the house.

Next we are starting with the hanging door bells and going to try to train her to use those.

Just my experience with the pens. :)
