New puppy-HELP I purchased a puppy 3 weeks ago. She is now 12 weeks. The seller only does 1 litter a year. She said she gave her the first 2 shots, but gave me no record. She emailed and said the were the 7 way shots from Tractor supply. What kind of records do I need to obtain from her for the vet to know what she has had? Thanks for any help. |
All pups should go to the vet for a check up within 24 to 48 hours of getting them and then you could ask the vet what they think. Yorkie pups should not leave there mom before 12 weeks and if they get there shots to early they don't take and sense she is saying she got her first two shots and there is no real way to prove it and she already has not done what is best for the breed by letting the pups go to early you maybe need to start from the beginning. I would definitely talk to your vet and see what they think also with these small babies do not get more then one shot at a time it is to much for there little systems. |
Thank you for your help. I will take her to my vet and see what they think. |
I have a BIG problem with Breeders that do that, SHE needs to give you a WRITTEN record and proof of those vaccines, other wise the Vet is going to tell you you have to revaccinate that pup, word of mouth is NOT good,my son is a vet tech and we do our vaccines up to 12 weeks, the puppies go home with a record of vaccination, dates, and the individual bottle tag that comes with each vaccine that is used in each puppy.. if she can't provide you with that I will assure you that puppy is going to be over vaccinated by the vet, or just vaccinated. call your breeder and tell her SHE needs to give you the wrapper of each bottle and a vaccine record, signed and stating what vaccine the pup got.. hugs, hugs, |
If your breeder will not give you a written record of what she gave the pup you are stuck. The vet is going to have to decide what to do. They may have to start over again. It is a very poor practice to not give detailed shot records to the new owner. It sounds like the breeder either did not know what they were doing or is just not telling the truth about the shots. The immunizations are not much use to the pup or you if there is no documentation. It is the breeder's responsibility to provide you with the information. You should not have to try to figure out what she did. |
Giving shots without records is useless. My Vet requires proof from another Vet. Please, please, get your puppy's shots. Prevention is so much better. Treating puppies that get sick with Parvo and other preventable diseases, can be extreamly expensive, and sadly they can be permnatly damaged and even death from Parvo is common. |
