The only treats my pups get are carrots at this point. They chew on their toys. |

It was when I saw for sale the plaited bully sticks that I really started to worry....who plaits them?!!? :eek: Is it Mrs. Bully?!!? :D And when I ordered some and they came in the post....there were still hairs attached :eek: Sorry, at that point they just had to go.....:D Sally + Harry x |

I wouldn't be too shocked about what they are made of as compared to the kind of things that are going into your dog's kibble. And you can be sure "bully sticks" in another form are going into your dog food as well. Pet food is not made of choice cuts of meat. Any part of the animal is considered "beef" or "chicken," etc. as far as pet food is concerned. Bully sticks saved my home and probably my dog that was a terribly destructive chewer during her first year. She was always finding and stealing things to chew up. I was really concerned that she would finally find something that would hurt her. Once she latched onto a bully stick I never had destructive chewing again. |

Gracie is a dinky little girl but I get her the regular thickness at the 12" length. One will last her at least two weeks now that she is past the worst of her chewing stage. When she gets all wound up about something she will grab a stick and start chewing to kind of let off some of her stress. I really don't care what part of the animal it is. They are good for my dog and they have helped her a lot. The animal is dead anyway. This is just another part of the body. They are fat free muscle for heaven's sake! |
I am not shocked at what they are made of. I have other concerns...that being bacteria and choking hazards. I have met quite a few people whose pups had GI issues that subsided once they stopped using bully sticks. |
Have to be careful with any chew thing you give your Yorkie. Too much choking and obstruction. My little Teddy had a stomach obstruction at 10 yr. and I took him to the emergency vet and she said he was very sick and I had to let him go to his heavenly home. To this day I do not know what it was that was the obstruction. Surgery was risky and he probably wouldn't have made it. Just be careful what your Yorkie chews on. I know Teddy did not get any bones that could have got stuck. I watch carefully what my boys get. No rawhide chews or bulls sticks. I do get CET digestible chews from my vet but when those things get too small or icky I take them away. |
