Patch vs pads Ok so I'm on petsmart trying to order puppy pads but I jus saw the potty patch which is like a pad but it looks like grass. Has anyone tried it? Wat do u prefer: pad or patch? Will either make it harder to transition to "going"outside? I'm in military so I won't b able to b at home all the time so he will have to "go" inside sometimes...advice plz.:confused: |
I tried the patch for Lexie & she had no interest in using it. So I just stick with pads. Nothing to clean, but it is more wasteful, like diapers. Transitioning to go outside shouldn't be impacted by using a pad or patch. It's just there if the dog knows there is no option to go outside. |
The patch you have to pour the urine out and wash regularly. The disposable pads you just throw away. Some people use washable pads. I guess it depends on your preference. |
The only thing I could think of is the grossness of trying to clean fake grass and I am sure the odor is never really gone. With pads you flush the poop and throw away. If you get the washable ones you save by reusing them and the disposable ones some rip them. |

I had a patch and my puppy really liked it. But then couple weeks later she developed diarrhea, and cleaning the patch was a nightmare. We bought another patch to replace it, and then she had diarrhea again. To clean that grass from diarrhea is pretty much impossible. This was becoming a very expensive habit, so we switched to disposable pads until diarrhea resolved. And now to washable ones. If you have an easy access to washing machine, go with washable ones as they will save you a lot of money in the long run. |

I have a covered porch with a baby gate. Moki rings his bell I let him outside and he goes on the grass patch. It's easy to clean with a hose. I use soap and hose it off. Never stinks. I have a spare patch so one can hang dry. Take 5 mins to clean max. But inside maybe to much work?? I use a reusable one and keep by the door when we aren't home . So if he can hold it he goes there. Just like out side every time he poops I flush it down the toilet. I change it everytime because he doesn't use it much. But before I would leave it for the day if his poops were hard. I have a big fenced yard but he only gets to go one the porch. Unless it's daytime and I'm out there. You can go to a medical center and get pads for $7 but they will be plain white. |

I wait till I get a load. wash them with a little bleach. Store them in a diaper pal so theres no smell. I just use the cheap $7 medical ones. Hope full when Moki gets around 2yrs old he won't use them anymore. My previous Yorkie could hold it. |

I was thinking about going with reusable but was afraid they would get confused on where to go like if kids leave clothes on floor and my yorkies thinking it was a ok to go on it |
I just keep a diaper pail in the basement I use 2 a day, they are not all that bulky and I wash them once a week, sometimes 2x a week. I don't use bleach, I use a bit of pinesol for disinfecting purposes, its easier on the fabric than bleach and laundry detergent. I have had my pads for over a year, I think. Mine are really like new still. The 2 medical ones I have are falling apart...just my opinion that the ones made by 107Barney are much more absorbent, sturdy and I am sure last for years. I honestly think the washable are 1000x worth it. |
Regarding the washable pads vs disposable pads - does the OP have easy access to a washer and dryer. Some folks that live in apartments etc don't have that convenience. |
