Funny, funny, funny.... Just had to share this.... I recently moved into a ranch style house. The girls have their own room where their liter boxes are located. The basement door is in the kitchen. Miss Mia my deaf girl has a new habit, and it just cracks me up. She goes in her room to pee, comes out and literally tiptoes, head down like a cat stalking a mouse, and "sneaks" past me, runs down the basement steps...it sounds something like horses running, she is not graceful at all...she runs to the far corner of the basement, takes a poop, runs back up the stairs, stands in the kitchen and wipes her feet like a person! The look on her face is priceless, she is all happy and excited afterward, like she got away with something...she is so mischievous! I have no idea why she does this but I don't mind. Its simple clean up, but I think I will put a liter box down there just for being "proper" appearances! |
that is too cute. Remy will run upstairs and poop on our bathroom matts. I don't care... they are washable:D |
haha what a lil stinker!!! i love that she wipes her feet heheeh. keylo poops while walking!! i dont know why but she wont stay still and always misses the potty pad. i tell her shes lucky shes so cute..i mean i cannot get upset with her. like yall said its an easy clean up!! |
Awww, too cute. Such a sneak girl :) |
What a funny girl! My two like to sneak up to the room they hang out during the day with their potty pads and poop. I would rather they go outside while I'm home, but if they insist... lol |
That's to funny. Yorkies seem to have such personality I love it. |
Sounds like she has picked her spot! Gracie does not like to poo in the same place she pees either. |
Lol that is so cute i could not get mad either :p i love the lady like wiping my paws off after doing something dirty lol Guinness WAS really good about going outside for #2 that is until I put down the christmas mat at the door for the garage... For some reason Santa's face is the new place to go. I would be ok with it BUT when you come home open the door you either slide it across using the door or step in it. |
Too cute. Even though Lolli always goes outside no matter what, she always wipes her feet. This is actually a friendly territorial thing, I believe? It just means "Yeah.. I pooped there. This is MY place now! hehehehe" type of thing. But on that note.. how does one litter box train a dog? I've never heard of it but it's intriguing. Could I teach a 10 year old yorkie to do such a thing?! The reason I inquire is because we are about to move into a 3rd floor apartment. This may help during work hours (I work from home) from having to haul her up and down the steps just to pee. I don't like making her run up and down steps that have no backing on them, plus 3 flights is a lot and I worry about her hurting her back. |

Its your preference on how you want to train them, I enjoy the freedom it allows me if I am running late from work, or not wanting to go in the cold. Miss Mini is low to the ground small and we get snow here so its just easier for me...ok fine I'm lazy, I had 23 big dogs that needed constant care, I'm lazy now, I love the litterbox method....:D |
OMG, my Oliver (he's a toy poodle tho) does that too, it's funny, but can be frustrating, coz Stewie my Biewer eats poop, and follows Oliver around, so when Oliver moves while he poops, Stewie sometimes steps on the poop by mistake. It can get very messy :/ |
I've never heard of litter box method either, but am gonna check it out.... |
I have 2 of these as well: You can get the dog litter at any pet supply place or do like me and use pads either disposable or washable... |
Do they work better than pad holders? For multiple pets? |

lynzy, did you first introduce the litter box as pups? How did you go about actually training them to do this? I have always noticed while pups (specially young) will go on pads they also like to play with them and at times drag them around lol. So I have always thought going outside was best, but am interested in learning about your little litter box training dogs journey! I have never heard of this either :) |

It was rather simple and quite an accident (pardon the pun)!! lol anyway, I bought peepads immediately for Miss Mini, while looking for them at Petsmart I came across the Purina DogLitter box and the bags of litter. The laziness in me jumped at the opportunity, not to mention I had at the time a very sick little girl on my hands. I just put her peepads in the box and trained her to go in there, it really was that simple. I don't like the whole thought of pads on the floor etc, for me it was a great solution. I now have 2 litter boxes per dog, lined up in one area in their room (not all over the house) and they go to them all the time...save for Miss Mia who suddenly likes to poop in the corner of the basement! I now use 107Barneys washable pads, I change them each night before going to bed, sometimes more, but most times just once a day (pick up poop as necessary), no muss, no fuss. e.t.a. Purina no longer for some stupid reason sells the box which I LOVE, so I use the green boxes above and 2 mortar boxes I bought at lowes dirt cheap, they are black, deep and just a great size. I cut the front off so they just walk in... e.t.a. Purina still sells the litter, which a number of my friends use, but I prefer the pads... |
Lynzy420, I'm so glad you've posted coz I've been looking through Amazon and other pet supply stores for dog litter boxes for my four dogs, the boxes are outrageously expensive, the really fancy ones especially (self cleaning ones are just silly, I mean, I'm lazy, but I don't mind cleaning if my apartment is gonna stink like pee). I had no idea coz I bought one for my car, and it wasn't that bad. |
Large Mixing Tub-887102A at The Home Depot This is available at Home depot in the store, again I cut out a section in front so its walk in for Miss Mini with her disability....I have had these and the green boxes for years, I spray them with cleaner each time I change pads. Also want to mention that training really took only a couple days with both, having the boxes in another room is an added bonus! |
Genius! |
Hmmm does anyone that have cats use doggie litter boxes? |
