New Pup in the House Hi All new to this but have a 3 yr old and I just got my wife a new puppy for Christmas (8 wk old) what was I thinking...I thought that Chip was 8 wks when we got him but I guess I forgot he was almost 14 wks. Jake takes a lot of my time right now and I give plenty of time to Chip, alright I know that he is spoiled and thinks the Sun revolves around him. He is with me most of the day (retired) DW works and he is sitting right now on my legs with Jake trying to bite the edge of my laptop. But if Jake comes any where close to him or chasing him he up and over the gate to our office. We thought that this wound be a pal for him seeing that he loves all the other dogs at our summer campground and plays well with the other Yokies there even the weekend dogs he warms right up too, but this little 2 lbs fur ball scares him senseless. Any help on how we can get these two together before we have to put them in the motor home and drag them to Fla in 7 wks. Thanks for your help. Joe |
Hi Joe and welcome to YT! The best advice I can give you is to make sure that you always feed, pet, etc your oldest first. Give him just as much attention at the new puppy. And, mostly, just give it time. I'm not promising they will be best pals but they may be one day. Your oldest is used to being the only dog so it will just take time for him to accept the new one. Hang in there. Remember, at 8 weeks and 2lbs, your new puppy may need special care that your oldest didn't at 14 weeks. Make sure you read up on the signs of hypoglycemia in dogs, ok? Keep nutrical on hand always. It's good that you are home all day with him Ask any questions you may have along the way and we'll be here for support :) |
