What do you guys do with the dog clothes you no longer use?
 
I recently went through Clyde & Dexter's wardrobe and discovered an array of clothes that either no longer fit Dexter because we got them when he was 4 pounds lighter or Clyde never wore because I ended up not liking the way the clothes looked on him or something.

I was wondering what you guys do with the clothes that you do not use anymore? I'm not talking about ratty worn to death clothes ... but clothes that still almost look brand new because of how lightly they were used.

I posted them in an online ad, but have had 0% luck in selling them.
I contacted a local thrift store/good will, there response was "I do not think we take that stuff. Generally we just take bowls and leashes and crates" ... I was a little shocked by that? Some thrifts stores just plainly said "We don't sell dog stuff here" ...

I also don't have any friends that are small dog lovers (aka I don't know anyone who has a small dog in need of clothes)


I would hate to just throw all these good outfit away ... What do you guys do with the clothes that you no longer have a use for?

I also contacted salvation army... the one in my area said that they do not re-sell pet stuff because of the fact that dog stuff could have disease on it. At least that is what the lady told me over the phone.

I sell used dog stuff here.:) It almost always sells (scroll down to products for sale section). I think you have to be a donating member to post though..but maybe not.

i usually take pics of the clothes and post on yorkie talk "free to good home"...:D

there is also a yorkie products for sale section if you wish to sell them..:)

I have been thinking of posting clothes - yours free, just pay postage. I have several things that my dogs just don't wear and would be happy to give them away. I would send them and then the receiving party could just send me a check for the postage stamped on the box. Simple

I'm planning on becoming a donating member so that I can participate in the next (next) YT gift exchange so I don't think that part will be a problem! I will definitely look into that.

That was one of the places that I looked to donate. I called the SPCA in our area ... and they told me to call their thrift store. I got a really rude girl on the phone who told me that they don't except "that" stuff. I think I'll just take the stuff to the shelter myself because I'm sure there are little doggies there that would like to be warm ... and I'm pretty positive that an animal shelter thrift store would sell dog stuff? I think the girl on the phone just didn't want to deal with me.

I know that the local SPCA thrift store in my area hires a lot of teenagers to help run the shop, and some of them don't have the greatest attitudes about working LOL.

I might try a rescue, too. I couldn't imagine a rescue not needing some stuff for small dogs ... I didn't even think of contacting a privately owned rescue. Since Clyde is such a large Yorkshire terrier some of his clothes are really rather big. I think his clothes would really benefit a rescue.

I'm looking to give them away for free to a "dog in need" or an owner having a hard time finding cute clothes for their dogs.

So I will definitely have to take some pictures of the stuff and see if anyone is interested! ^-^

Donate them! Your local no-kill shelter would love to have them I'm sure. At the shelter I work at we often have to shave down dogs that come in matted. Since it's so cold we use donated coats and sweaters to keep them warm. I've donated all the dresses and harnesses mine have grown out of. Some times having the dogs in cute outfits help get them adopted too- win win :D

Am I the only one that keeps all my dog's old stuff?

I even have all the clothes/sweaters/coats/harnesses from my last yorkie, Chelsea. She was much smaller than ZoE, so ZoE couldn't use them once she was past the puppy stage, so I packed everything away in the two smaller dog carrier/purses. I have them stored in the basement, right next to my skin kid's stuff that I'm keeping.

Does this make me a lil weird? Or alot weird? :D

I sadly gave mine away to a friend's niece when she got her puppy grrrrr I wish I had the cute bunny PJ's back now :(

I can't bear to give away or sell Uni's puppy clothes. So cute to look at, and can't imagine her being that small!

But I have sold some stuff on here that just didn't work out for us, but all the puppy stuff has sentimental feelings so I can't part with them.

But lots of people post on here for sale, or free to whoever wants it, just pay shipping.

I gave Blazer's first two sweaters to a friend of mine who has a slightly older but much smaller Yorkie pup. I'm super sad about his red pirate sweater, I LOVE it, but I know that it looks cute on Fender and it fits him. I just hope that he gets a chance to wear it, he is always inside the house and they keep it pretty warm usually. But anyhoo...

Haha. I do not think that makes you weird! I wish that I could keep all my dog's new old stuff but I just don't have the room for it. I also travel a lot so it doesn't work for me to keep it all.

I really like that you're able to keep all their stuff! Will be great memories =) And if you were ever to get another puppy it would be all set with clothes to wear!

LOL I don't think it is weird to keep or give them away. :D

I kept all the sweaters I crocheted for my Yorkie-Poo for many, many years even though I had big dogs because they held such precious memories of heartbeat baby.

I also just gave away some things including two fleece hoodies to my 'Granddaughter Chihuahua' who I got to puppy sit for recently. I had asked her Mommy if she wore clothes and was told she would for a little while then would start pulling on them. But, it got chilly out and I put hoodies on Brody and Mia, and put a slightly smaller one on her. She wore it three days straight and never pulled on it...seemed to enjoy it...so I sent the pink and blue matching hoodies home on, and with, Piper. :D

I think you will find the perfect thing to do with them. :D

Many consignment shops take dog clothes. I have seen them at baby consignment shops.

yes you are crazy and I have been meaning to talk to you about that, just give them to me. But I know why you are holding on to them, for that puppy in your future, if not, then yes give them to me:D:D:D:D
