what is a micro mini yorkie I have a friend of a friend that her son has been given a micro mini yorkie for Christmas I'm new to yorkies but if they are a true registered form I don't see it health and puppies take a lot of work and shouldn't be given to a 5 year old as a present! |
Sounds scary! |
A tragedy in the making...the poor pup is not a play toy and a five year old has no concept of how breakable it is.:(:mad: No, there is no such thing as a micro mini yorkie as far as the AKC is concerned, only a greeder's name for a pup that they don't care about the health and well being of, they only want to breed for tinies due to the big price tags people will pay. How old is the pup? |
"Micro and/or mini" are not registered forms. All Yorkies belong to the toy breed, and the breed standard is 7 pounds and under. Usually people that call their dogs "minis" mean they have one under about 4 pounds. Tinies do have many more health concerns. They are way more fragile, and yes, you are correct, they should not be given as gifts to five year old children. |
Those terms are used to sell puppies at a higher price. Only greedy breeders use those terms and we call them 'greeders'. I would NOT purchase from a breeder that uses the terms teacup, tiny, micro, or mini. I am scared for that puppy... A 5 year old with a tiny, frail dog? :( |
I cannot imagine. We have a 3 year old and a 8 year old grandaughters that are only allowed to hold Kyra when they are sitting down. It is just such a worry when they are so small and fragile to begin with. Maybe you could introduce your friend to YT. Advice might help them. |
...........omg.....................PLEASE POST THE NAME OF THE BREEDER THAT PULLED THIS STUNT, AT THIS POOR PUPPYS EXPENSE. Then all the newbies on here, and the ones reading and learning, write that breeders name down, SO YOU CAN STAY CLEAR OF HER....she is irresponsible, unethical, and strictly in it for the money she can get out of people that know no better. NO 5 year old baby should be given a tiny puppy, especially a "micro-mini-itsy-bitsy-teenie-tiny-microscopic-pocket sized-teaspoon sized", etc living fragile puppy as a toy for Christmas, so I fault the parent for even going there....but the breeder that enabled the parent...this is like those doctors that provide dope to Elvis and Michael Jackson...they know if they say NO, the person will just move down to the next irresponsible person that will gladly accept the money for that unfortunate little pup. That is unethical, and the only tragic thing that will come from this, is that poor little puppy's future.... |
A micro-mini Yorkie is something to stay away from if possible. It usually means they are very tiny and can't live as a normal dog, have huge vet bills and are easily injured if they jump from a couch or bed, aside from the many genetic problems they tend to inherit due to bad breeding practices. |
This is sad. Why would parents think this would be a good idea. I really hate that people think that it is ok to give toy puppies, chicks, bunnies and other little animals to children and young children at that. After the holidays there are tons of poor animals brought to the shelters telling them it is too much for them to take care of. Or vets they were dropped, shaken, stepped on, etc. I wish these people would buy them a stuffed animal. It is safer. Btw as per AKC: Toy Group; AKC recognized in 1885. Ranging in size from four to seven pounds. |

I totally agree with you, a dog shouldn't be given at Christmas, too much is going on and too many things are out that could hurt a young puppy, just way to much excitment for a puppy. |
Well there is no such thing. It is a word the bad breeders use to jack up the prices of there pups because all the care about it lots of money. These type of breeders don't care about there dogs at all and most of the parents dogs live in a real hell. Some of these breeders will let the pup go home way to young and lie about the age so it seems smaller. We have a had a few members who where sold very small dogs who where supposed to stay that way and ended up there dog grew to 12 pounds. These very very small yorkies can come with health problems and sense it came from a bad breeder is probably going to have even more problems. Yorkies are not like poodles there is only one type just a yorkie. I feel so bad for this pup. Pups should never ever be Christmas presents let alone to children. We have had many stories on here where puppies have been, dropped, stepped on and sat on by kids. Its so important people realize dogs are not toys they breathe and feel things just like us. Most puppies that are given as Christmas gifts end up in shelters after a week or to because they become to much work or just not fun anymore its so sad. |
I don't know who the breeder is but the puppy is 12 weeks old. I feel sorry for the little girl I knew everything I had read said there is one kind of yorkie and those bred to be that small have hard lives. Of course my friend has questioned kiki's papers saying she was so big she probably isn't pure bred. But my little girl weighs 5lbs and almost a year old. I just wanted to figure out if a micro mini was even such a thing. |
Tibbe weighs 5.3 lbs. and he's no "micro mini" to me. He's a sturdy guy. I would imagine a micro mini would be a toy dog under 3 lbs. but since it's not a recognizable breed term with any of toy dog breed, that's just my guessing what someone could expect to get if they really wanted a tiny, tiny dog. It's usually just a term used to draw people in. |
Its greed...pathetically bred to intentionally produce nonstandard Yorkies that often include many health problems...we are not talking runt of the litter here we are talking unethically bred pups, period. |
