Hi, My yorkie is terrified of other dogs!? Hello there, I have a 9 month old puppy called lulu, she's a sweetie with not a bad bone in her body, she loves to play and snuggle but only with humans?! 4 weeks after we had her once she had all her jabs we starter taking her to puppy classes and puppy meet ups she hated it all from the minute she got there, she would hide and completely ignore other dogs, admitted the first time we went the bigger dogs where a little rough with her but nothing that puppies wouldn't normally do. She only has one other yorkie friend who she likes to play with and that is all. I my aunt recently got a tiny little s**tzu who is maybe 1/3 the size of Lulu and she is still really scared she doesn't like to be near it and will hide when the puppy tries to play but when she is hiding and stuff her tail is still wagging happily?! I was wondering what I can do to get her used to this puppy as they will be spending ALOT of time together over christmas and is this a typical yorkie thing to do? Thank you! Jazz & Lulu! |

It may be she remembers the aggressive actions of the larger dogs at her first classes. Maybe it is not so much the size as the fact that the puppy is being very forward with her. Your dog has a less aggressive personality. I'm sure the puppy is full of life and wants to play. It could be a good opportunity for your girl to learn how to play but don't force her if she is really bothered by it. Expose her a little at a time. The puppy should also be taught good manners. Don't let it be too overbearing since you little one does not like rough play. The puppy will eventually grow out of the baby stage and hopefully by then they will know each other well enough to get along. |
Wallee also has that very submissive gentle nature and although he likes to meet other dogs I always have to be on the watch. All dogs, no matter what size always dominate him and sometimes bite his face to the point he will cry. The instructor at the puppy class said that it was because his nature was so gentle. Makes it very hard for him to have friends cause I always worry about him getting hurt. |
