Possible yorkie mix?? Hello; anyone remember me?? =D I'd joined a while back looking to adopt a special needs yorkie. Instead, fate brought me to adopt a pregnant Chihuahua who was rescued from a puppy mill. She has kept us busy these past couple months, and the household has been doing all we can to socialize and raise these guys properly. As she lived outside with other dogs, we have no idea who Dad was; just that he was another toy breed. Pups are now about six weeks old. They all got mom's color pattern; but I've had a few people suggest that they could be yorkie mixes; especially based on one little guy Leon. He belongs to my roommate; and I am keeping his sister Eve. I was hoping some of you avid yorkie lovers might be able to see if you can recognize any yorkshire terrier traits; as since most of the pups look like mom so far, we don't have any other ideas. I've considered doing a DNA test in the future on Eve but as she'll just be a spayed beloved pet, it doesn't matter. I just wondered if anyone thought she could be half yorkie, in which case you'll all be seeing a lot more of her. ;) Thanks! Here's Eve at ~6 weeks old: http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/...vesunlight.jpg And here are two of her littermate, Leon; he's the one who gave us the suspicion that dad may have been a Yorkshire terrier: http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/...dosunlight.jpg http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/...doportrait.jpg Mom is a blind & deaf white long haired Chihuahua who should have NEVER been bred; and will be spayed in a few weeks. Eve was the only pup to also be deaf. They all seem to be growing fluffy faces; and even LC Chi's have smooth coated muzzles. Any ideas? =) |
I know all yorkie and silky pups that I have seen are black and tan, and colour variations usually come in later, but your pups are darling no matter what mix they are. The faces are somewhat yorkie-ish to me, but I have absolutely nothing to substantiate that...lol |
Howdy. Very cute. Yorkie or not, they look like happy little pups. I'm sure you'll be welcome no matter what they turn out to be. I'm sure they will love you unconditionally. |
Bless you for taking in this Momma dog and giving her a forever home. The puppies are just so cute. Not sure sure what to say on the mix. They sure have cute faces. |

OP- oh my goodness are those cute babies!!!! =D I can see where you'd think that they are mixed with a Yorkie, but I don't know what long-hair Chi pups are "supposed" to look like! LOL! At any rate, they are SOOOO cute, and it should be easier to tell what mix they are once they are older. |
Thanks all to those who replied so far! I should mention that mom's is a merle; which is a dominant trait; the pups are all double merle (mostly white) except for Leon who is just a standard solid merle. So, color-wise I know that won't be any indication since they got that from mom. Their coats are longer, and they have longer fur on their muzzles as well; and a few folks thought they had yorkie-er head shapes & eyes than a Chi. Again thanks for responding and I look forward to seeing what anyone else says! =D ETA: Oh, and here's an old pic of a white "just chihuahua" long haired pup at the same age, he came from the only other litter of pups I've helped raise and his mom is still here today too. =) This kinda shows better how much shorter fur even the 'long haired' Chi's have. http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/...astbyretro.jpg |
oh they are most adorable. so glad you saved that momma!! i see small yorkie traits in the face ears....as well. |
Oh my dear, they are soooo adorable i could cuddle with them right now lol, they look so happy and how sweet of you to give their momma a forever home :) |
I have a friend with a long haired chi that looks alot like them and her coat is almost as long as Laddy's. Beautiful babies. |
Adorable. Maybe part Yorkie, I noticed the tail is docked, or were they born with a bob tail ? |

Whatever they are....they are adorable! In any event please stick around, would love to see more of your fur family! Thank you for taking in Momma and giving her a loving forever home! |
These babies are absolutely precious. Thank you for taking care of high needs babies. |
Thank you all for such kind words and hospitality! Teresa, I'm not sure which photo you're referring to, but none of their tails have been docked. They're all au-natural! =D Regardless, little Eve is here to stay; and I'd be happy to consider her an honorary yorkie mix even if I may never know. She's my little "maybe mutt" and whatever she is, I think she's perfect! I do agree that time will tell and I'd be happy to get to know you all and keep everyone posted on her development. She already loves tennis balls (though to be fair she just looks like a white teddy bear using an exercise ball when she plays with them, hehe.) Here's another of my favorite pictures of her. http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/...eportrait2.jpg |
We love all dogs. And those pups are adorable. Thanks for giving them a chance I look forward to watching them grow up |
