Mating when should i match my yorky??? at what age?? |
Yorkie males are typically able to be bred at 6 months of age. Females need to be at LEAST a year old before attempting to breed them. |
Boys will typically be ready before 1 year females never breed first season! always best to wait second season... if she comes in every 6-8 months then it is best to rest her and bread every other season if she comes in every 8-12 months then it is safe to breed again then rest next season. JMHO |
how long is the pregnancy ?? |
I know I'm in on this late, but my vet said the male Yorkie next door should be 18 months old before I use him as stud! He's 10 months old now and I think my 4 year old Yorkie will be in season soon. |

Is it possible this is just bait? I cannot believe anyone would consider breeding with so little knowledge of the process as these questions indicate. I agree it is scary if it is for real.. |
yikes I agree! |
Excuse me? I thought I WAS doing research when I was talking here to people who know all about Yorkies before I thought about breeding her and I talked to the vet. Sorry if I offended anyone. |
Am I mis-reading this thread? I was speaking to Luis YT. Devotedtoyou, I didn't mean for my answers to be directed to you. I am sure you have been reading enough to know the responsibility of breeding.. |
Sometimes things people type comes out harsher than they mean them to. People that are interested in breeding should come to YT to find out the answers. This is a great area with wonderful expertise. Everyone should totally investigate before they breed. We need to remember though that it is okay for questions to be asked, better sooner than later. |
for all of you and PINKMARTINI im not breeding yet i am yust asking, pls dont talk with out knowing why i asked, i am doing the same thing you are telling doing research before breeding, i dint like that from you :embarasse, thx for understanding ttreatsyokys |
I don't know why everyone is so riled up because Luis YT and I asked some questions? I don't know about Luis YT, but I'm not interested in making a buck, at all. I've never had a small dog like a Yorkie and I didn't know if it was the same as breeding larger dogs. I feel attacked on each thread I post. I'm out of here......I'll read from now on and not post. Thanks anyway. |

I have written a PM to devotedtoyou as I see she has said she will not post again. I hope that anyone who is considering breeding even if they don't post or read, will continue to read and search for a mentor.. |
Just My Opinion!!! First of all I just have one question,to all of you people who use the phrase " You should consider breeding to BETTER THE BREED" explain to me exactly what that statement means, and what you personally are doing to better the breed?? That is something I would REALLY like to know! :aimeeyork I have to agree with devotedtoyou I have posted questions and all but been been attacked also, and called basically a bad yorkie mommy  ! For asking a simple question about a stud service in trade for a puppy. I have learned asking people on here questions is pretty much pointless, because they pretty much call you a bad person or dont even answer any questions. Take me advice and talk to your OWN breeder. Chances are they sold you a wonderful puppy and they know just as much if not more that these people on here do anyway! |
I really don't think its right that people have to be afraid to post any question on here. That is what a forum is for. Its driving away people and thats just not fair. I think that all opinions are valued ones but theres a point when it goes too far!!! |

"Bettering the breed" has to do with certain traits (good and bad) that breeders look for before breeding to help get the pups "closer to the standard." Coat texture, straight back, size, height in proportion to weight, health concerns, etc...here is a quote from YorkieRose, posted yesterday: "Scanning the threads, the pet owner DOES care about conformation, faults and recessive genes..people post about ears not going up, bad knees, liver shunt, cotton coats, roach backs, coat won't grow, bad bites, is my Yorkie really a Yorkie, do I have a Silky/Yorkier mix, why is my Yorkie oversized..too many to list. My goal as a breeder is to produce a happy, healthy, well adjusted Yorkie that is an excellent representation of the breed standard ..and we should expect no less of anyone who breeds a litter, whether they are a pet or show breeder..why do harm to the vary breed we love so much? Who in good conscience can ask hundreds of dollars for a Yorkie and have it look or behave nothing like a Yorkie..that is why the standard is vital..it is the breeders blueprint on how to make a Yorkie..breeding to the standard is giving the pet owner what they are asking for... disregard the standard and you are breeding blind. JMO" Here is that link:http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...ght=yorkierose |
In my opinion we just need to be way less judgmental on breeding issues and try to help people who are asking for advice. Just think of all the people out there who aren't asking for advice. That's what's really scary, not the ones who come here to learn. If we simply "jump the gun" and insult people from the word "go", they will just go do what they want to do without the necessary information and knowledge. I know for a fact that the knowledgeable people on this forum have been able to educate people who were planning on breeding and then realized what is really involved or that their dog was too small or whatever and they changed their minds. We can make a difference here but not by acting judgmental. |
I agree with you socalyorkilvr!! I know I felt bad when I jumped the gun on rustilee in another thread. I really have recieved a lot of valuable advice on this forum. I think if someone asks a question on breeding, mating, pregnancy etc.. we should all be helpful and not try and scare people off. I have been on other forums where people would get rude and sarcastic over a question. and people just leave . I would hate to see that happen here because all of you have a special quality that I think adds to this forum. I love reading all your questions and stories and lil funny comments. Sometimes they brighten my day when Im having a bad one. :D . So I hope no one leaves or feels unwanted because I would miss anyone of you if you didnt post. sue  |
