thanks! i guess i am really stressed by this, we stayed up all night force feeding him all night, this morning he got sick , so now he is back at the vet again and they are keeping him today, it seems now that the little fella is also stressing out he is afraid of us , and he does like us to try to feed him, i guess he can also see that we are stressed out, yorkie owners in this room have been fantansic! we have had many dogs before but not as small as little moose, he is 10 weeks old today and weight is 1 lb 2 oz |
I am not sure where Spring Hill Fl is. I live in central Fl. My vet is excellent, although her speciality is breeding problems, fertility, and AI (frozen sperm bank). Dr. B would know who to send you to for this problem or would be able to treat it, herself. Here is her information: Highland Pet Hospital, Dr. Beverly Brimacomb, 863-644-6634 5631 US Highway 98 South, Lakeland Fl. 33812 |

If you have Nutrical by all means of course it is better then Karo. I used Karo like i said and it worked fine of course its just sugar but then again i was trying to raise the dogs sugar level. Also my mother in law and Gf have raised yorkies for years and thats what they informed me worked and it did. So before you dis the Karo try it. It just might suprise you. |
Sorry. Missed the whole page about the infection, and being on Flagyl. I sounded like an idiot..."just wait him out unti he eats..." |
How old is this pup? |
It is the little ones that have the most trouble with hypoglycemia usually. Karo is good for when you need to get the glucose level up fast but the NutraCal is good because it has the glucose and added nutrients to help the puppy through a tough time. The parasite he had makes a puppy's tummy feel so bad they do not want to eat. Until he gets his appetite back he is going to need some help. Usually using the syringe is kind of natural for them to eat out of because they can lap a little at a time but since he is still not well enough to want to eat it is difficult. I did not want to make you feel bad but you have to understand that when someone comes on here and asks for help and says they think the pup is going to die it stresses everyone here out. More information gives people more of an ability to understand what you are dealing with so they can help you. Without the info we have no real idea how to help you. There was a new person here a few months ago whose puppy was going through the same thing. It had the same parasite and everything. It did pull through but it took a few weeks to get him to where he needed to be. Hopefully yours will start making some good progress soon. |
Understand that your stress who wouldn't be. Lets hope the vet can get him started on the right track this time... He is lucky to have you. He could have fallen into hands that did nothing Sending prayers and keep us posted |
Well moose spent the day at the vets again. The vet has taken him home with him to try to get him to eat and drink on his own. They are a fantastic group of people. He phoned me this afternoon and moose is doing a lot better! |
Prayers are being answered. GREAT NEWS :) |

Please keep us updated. You have certainly been on an emotional roller coaster ride with your too young and too light pup. No reputable breeder sends home a pup under 2lbs and under 12 wks old. They could be 12wks old but if only weighing one pound 2 ounces they don't go to the purchaser. Just way way too much chance of what has happened to your pup, and particularly in an inexperienced toy dog owner. What is done is done. Hopefully your vet will be able to stabilize the pup and keep him for another few weeks until they at least reach 2lbs. I am totally appalled that your breeder a) let this dog go to you that young and weighing so little and b) did not reach out a helping hand to you. |
I am glad your pup is doing well. But for anyone reading this, this is one of the biggest reasons pups should stay with there moms until 12 weeks. |
Love my little man Well moose is home today the vet kept him last night and he started eating on his own around midnight even tho he is only eating a few bites its a starts, I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for your prayers |
Thats awesome news Cont. prayers for lil moose |
Again great news. Once he is feeling better we must have pictures. He has along way to go before he is normal but this is a great start. Please keep updating |
So glad he is starting to eat on his own. Continuing to pray for a full recovery. |
Keep us posted on Moose, we think Moose is pretty special, and you too!:) |

Just finished reading the rest of this thread & am so happy to hear that Moose is doing better. |
Just now seeing this thread... glad Moose is improving. Just want to mention that whenever Nutrical or Karo syrup is given, it's important to also give a protein, like some chicken baby food or the like, at the same time, to help stabilize his blood sugars. Keeping you all in my prayers... |
